Starting my Cylon Centurion

Hello,

I received my armor today in the mail. I ran across someone on Ebay that was selling a kit, so I thought I would start there. Especially since this is my first Cylon, if I screw anything up, I havent lost much and I will know better if I decide to get a better kit later on. I dont know the origin of the kit.

The armor is partially assembled, but I do not believe it was done very well. The pieces were glued together badly and the structure is not very solid, so I have some rebuilding to do.

The helmet is fully assembled, but also needs alot of work.

My first qoal is to make sure I have all the parts. How many belt boxes should there be? I have six.

Well, I spent the evening working on the armor and I have come to the conclusion the backpack is a lost cause. I think there are two side pieces missing from the backpack. There is also one belt box missing as well.

The backpack was either cut completely wrong or built with pieces missing. It was held together with glazing putty, glue, and one small bolt.

So, basically I have a box of spare parts and a helmet. No packpack.

This is going to be harder than my Darth Vader costume.

we demand photos ...Lets have a look at what you managed to buy, we may be able to help or recommend what to do. I'm a Vader too.

Yikes! Sounds like you are off to a rough start. But like you said, you have some parts to test with. That's a plus.

Do you have any boots yet?

Any parts that are missing I am sure C.O.R.A. can help with. He now sells a fiber glass back pack, or the vac formed piece. If you can get together a count of what you have, and what you need that would be a great start.

I will get some photos up as soon as possible. Maybe tonight.

I do have some boots. I have had these Russian enlisted boots for years and never found a project to use them on, but I think they will work for the Cylon costume.

The helmet had an eye system installed, althouth not a high end one, but I think with some adjustments, I can make it work. It uses a control box that says "Knight Rider" on it, which I think is kind of funny.

I have also come up with a plan for the undersuit using Under Armor pieces.

Sorry for not posting pictures, but my camera is on the fritz.

However, I have started working on the pieces I do have. Hopefully, I can salvage some of them to make decent parts of the costume.

I did some extensive clean-up on the helmet. Trimmed the belt pieces and primered the chest piece.

I sent a message to CORA for the prices for a backpack and some belt boxes, so if that works out I should have all the hard parts I need for now.

Im also doing some testing on different chrome paints that are available. I tested Dupli-color, Rustoleum, and Valspar. Personally, I like the Valspar. After the paint drys, it doesnt rub off on my fingers like the others do. The luster is about the same on all three.

I will keep you posted as the project progresses and I hope to post some pictures soon.

Okay, I got my camera working. Here are my pictures of what I have so far. I have been working on the helmet and chest piece, which I have primered. The belt boxes I used for some chrome test painting.

The backpack will definately need replaced, I think.

Please take a look at the pictures and let me know if you think Im missing anything.

I reall do appreciate all your help with this project.

1 belt box and maybe the ribs.... I'd like a close look at the lid please if possible also that backpack don't look to bad once you glue it together maybe a bit of trimming filling and sanding I'm sure you could get away with that no problem . once finished you could also edge it with car chrome edging ..
how are you finding you painting results? are you happy with it. im looking at painting my lid also..

Great photos! It maight be they are just not in the photo - but I see you need the backback accent "circle" and backback "cords" - also the nozzle for one of the forearms - the "gun barrel"

The chome does look good... are you happy with it like nashslash asked? What is it like in person - mirror reflections, or a bit more "fuzzy" reflections?

The pieces missing that I agree with Nash are as follows. 1 battery belt box, rib pieces, and back strap that connects the rib pieces, and the nozzle piece in the wrest piece that is already together.

I do have the resin nozzle that goes on the wrist gauntlet. I do not have the circle piece that goes in the upper right corner of the backpack, so I will need to fabricate that one somehow.

What do you mean by the rib pieces? Can someone provide a photo?

The chrome paint is the Valspar and it does pretty well. It does give off a fuzzy reflection. Not as good as vaccum metalizing, but at $5 a can, it is cost effective. The reason I prefer it over the others is the silver doesnt rub off on your hands when you handle it. I will probably paint the chest piece next, so I will post a photo to show how it turned out.

The three rib pieces were used to hold the chestplate in place.

Please forgive my ignorance and the following silly questions I may be asking.

So, the two side pieces connect the breast plate to the backpack. Is this correct?

Whats the third piece for?
