Do You Have/Had (An) Analog Classic Vocoder(s)??!!!
I don't really own an EMS Studio-System Vocoder 5000, but I do own a Roland SVC-350 Vocoder!! I recently had a Next! VOX-II/11 Vocoder (which I never used), but that's not a classic. The old vintage classic analog hardware vocoders were built from the mid 70's to early 80's.
For my carrier input I use either the Korg Poly-800 Synthesizer or the Roland JX-8P Synthesizer (mostly the Poly-800). What do you use as a carrier input?

I've got the Hyperdyne Vortex voice changer. It sounds OK. People have a hard time understanding me at a noisy con, but they can tell it's the Cylon voice at least. You have to speak slowly and monotone.

Since he never answered you, I will. I just got my Krop. I got the Vortex 2 unit. I put the amp/speakers in the back pack along with the Vortex 2. I ran a wire up to the helmet to a boom mic that currently is fixed to the lower left side by the Jaw and swong up near my mouth since my nose is about rubbing on back of the gril piece. My mic boom is only 4 inches and plugged into a headset, so i use it by itself with a extension cable so i can unplug it right at the helmet and lave the mic there. So thats it for now, ill see how that works and if it needs to be refined or scraped and start over.Cylon-Knight wrote:Sounds pretty good.

According to the folks i was with last evening, they said they could only hear the vocoded voice and not mine under the helmet. I find it hard to believe since all i could hear was basically my own voice and barely any of the vocoder.(but thats what ya get talking in a fish bowl) But ill do more testing with more discriminate help next week. I think you can hear me talking some, but it's muffled a lot from being inside the helmet. I've never actually hear it from the outside, just through that recording on my digital camera, which really doesn't have a very good microphone itself.

I did have some trouble with it at DragonCon this year. Once I got back to look at it, I think the MP3 player had a loose connection, so I didn't have the warble sound. Also, after having worn my costume several times with no voice, I kept forgetting that I could actually talk and didn't use it when I could have.
It's a fun setup though. Just don't go into it expecting it to be perfect.
EDIT: Also, I set up the push to talk by running the wire down the inside of my undersuit into my glove, then taped it around my finger. I could squeeze the button inside the hockey gloves, but it was difficult when holding anything, like the gun or sword. It needed the push to talk because the speaker/mic/electronics are too close together and you get feedback easily.
