NASHSLASH Cylon Helmet Build

OK, guys n gals, I got a new lid recently and I've decided to take as many pictures of the build and process that I use to complete the lid as to help others. there is many ways to construct the lid, but I will use a method that suits my ability.

Firstly, on opening the box. I found that the kit was very nicely made. and with only a little work it hopefully it won't take me too long to get this project finished.

Quite simply I rough cut the excess off of the lid and mouth and pushed them together just for a few shots here.

As the build progresses I will details what methods I used for each process.

OH My! The race is on with nashslash to finish our helmets

I'll bet you a Basestar that is probably a C.O.R.A. kit - It looks very well done and just like mine. The only difference is the white around the red lens, I didn't get a "part" like that.

Just been shopping, and bought some plastic weld, wet and dry sandpaper and some filler....

ok, the finish of day one. I managed to spend about 3 hours today on the lid in between my misses nagging because it looked to her as though I was enjoying myself to much.

Method

1. I rough cut the lid using a sharp pair of scissors.

2. Being rather lazy I got the dremmel out. and trimmed the edges correctly. (I've made a few stormtrooper costumes and a Vader using it).

3 I masked up the lid prior to gluing as I didn't want to get any glue on or over the lid

4. I made some supports for the two halves so that they would glue together better.

5 I secured the supports into one half of the lid

6 I then glued the two halves together. it didn't matter if any glue escaped as I had masked of the helmet. and in the morning I will remove the masking tape and selotape that are holding the parts together while the glue sets.

7. clean up for the night and spend the evening with my misses so I can do some more tomorrow.

Man what someone can do with 3 hours on their hands. What a great start. Can wait to see what tomorrow brings around. Great start, and good luck with the rest of the build.
PS on an other note I see you posted 10% complete. Will you do 10% each day for a 10 day build?

Dale I wish m8. will do a bit of filling and more fitting tomorrow... it will only reach 50% then the chroming/painting will slow things up....

Build update.

Method.

1. Removed the tape holding the helmet apart while gluing.

2. Lined the inside of the seam with velcro to help hold the two halves together and add as a stop for the filler. I want my lid seamless.

3. Filled the seam with car body filler.

4. Check fitting, marked out areas that need additional trimming.

The next few days will be a question of more trimming and sanding to the applied filler. then re apply and then even more sanding. and a little bit of trimming

Yes Cylon Knight, I'll paint the inside matt black when I get round to that stage..

Build Update.
Method

1. A bit of trimming today. i opened up the neck a little as previously marked out.

2. Sanded the seam.

3. Cut out the eye slat and mouth. cut out freehand using the dremmel. test fitted the mouth grill using tape

4. Re applied another coat of filler to the seam for more work tomorrow.

5. got my misses to take a picture of the lid during a test fit.

Looks great, love it. Makes me want to go build one, but I have other parts and projects that come 1st. Now is it me or just not a dead on shot of you wearing the helmet. Is the grill not level at the bottom. The left side of the photo looks higher than the right side.

prob not a dead on shot Dale, however the grill was only held in place for the picture with selotape .
