The script contains a longer version of the "hope it's the grog" scene, where we eventually follow Apollo and Serina into an elevator and he nearly proposes to her. The "Statesman" is the unnamed bearded member of the Council of the Twelve.
__________

IN THE LOUNGE
off the casino (or part of it), foliage surrounding a fountain of grog from which people merrily scoop out a bubbling enticement and congregate around a dancing fire which leaps from the center of the liquid volcano, a miniature in effect of the outer façade, forming a social pit around which men and women are indeed becoming quite social. Amongst them, Uri’s party. The Statesman enters.

STATESMAN
Uri… Have you seen the guest accommodations? They’re as opulent as a king’s palace and endless, endless. If this planet could fly, it could see us to our destination in true style.

URI
And why need it fly?

Uri kisses his sweet young thing and stands to look out on the starfield beyond the foliage, the casino and its music and laughter to his back.

URI
If a man were to fantasize an environment for his complete fulfillment, he could not have done better.
(looks back on his group)

We have the foods and necessities to feed our people. We have the support of a culture quite content to be subservient to our needs. We are far away from the Cylons as not to pose a threat to them.
(his face darkens)
At least we ought not to pose a threat, and would not, if we destroyed our war machines.

ON APOLLO AND SERINA

APOLLO
What’s this?

URI
Ahh, our young warrior, or should I say savior. I was just pointing out that the Cylons destroyed our cities because we were a threat to their order. Here, isolated from them, we pose no threat… or would not, if we disposed of our ships and weapons. What do you think of my proposal?

APOLLO
I’d hope it’s the grog.

URI
Well, perhaps tonight it is the grog, but tomorrow…

He raises his goblet. Serina and Apollo nod and move off, Uri staring at her departure with gluttonous eyes.

IN THE CASINO
Apollo and Serina cross to the elevators.

SERINA
Don’t let him ruin this wonderful glow. No one would take that proposal seriously.

Apollo smiles.

APOLLO
Then I have another… far more personal.

SERINA
Would you mind if we discussed it after we visit the guest quarters? I want to be sure Boxey is all right.

APOLLO
A mother to the end. Which brings me to my proposal.

She puts a finger on his lips.

SERINA
No proposals you can’t live up to when the grog wears off.

They step into the elevator.

INSIDE THE ELEVATOR
Serina looks at the level indicator.

SERINA
The guest accommodations are on the first three levels.

APOLLO
You’re on two.

Serina touches the plate, then stares at the levels which are indicated below those.

SERINA
I wonder what’s on these other levels further down.

APOLLO
Want to have a look?

SERINA
Why not?

The car is already descending as Serina pushes the bottom plate.

SERINA
Let’s start at the bottom and work our way up.

A SOFT VOICE
I’m sorry, but you have indicated an incorrect stop. Guest accommodations are limited to the first three levels. All others are for kitchen, mining, and support personnel only. Thank you.

Serina and Apollo exchange smiles.

SERINA
Eight levels… that’s gotta be some kitchen. I’m glad I’m not in it.

Apollo leans over as the elevator comes to a stop and kisses Serina.

APOLLO
I’m glad you’re not in it, too.

SERINA
Whatever’s in that grog… I’m taking with me when we leave this place.

Serina gives Apollo her best bedroom look, lets a cape drift sexily off her shoulder and struts out swinging her act like a vamp. Apollo laughs and moves after her out of the car. Behind them, the elevator doors close and the car continues on down. The car arrives at a lower level. Lotay stands at the opening elevator door. She enters. Lotay presses the touchplate to the lowest level… the car begins to descend. Momentarily, it stops. Lotay exits into a deep and purplish level. As Lotay moves down the corridor, she moves briskly along. She reaches a chamber. Lotay stops, looks up and down the corridor and enters alone.

__________

This leads directly to the scene where we first see humans being put into the wall chambers to feed the Ovion larvae, followed by the deleted scene that has Lotay (or perhaps Seetol) talking to the Cylon commander, who then communicates with the Imperious Leader.

Here's a more complete version of Starbuck's confrontation with the Nationalist forces in "Experiment in Terra," in which Starbuck attempts a bluff and we learn the name of John de Lancie's character.
_________________

STARBUCK
Don't move any closer to those ships... and please lower your weapons.

OFFICER
Don't listen to him! There are ten of us to one of him.

STARBUCK
That you can see.
(louder)
Men, I'm going to try to take these people alive if possible... but if they won't cooperate...

OFFICER
Those two ships would appear to be single-man craft. Even if there are two of you, you are intruders in airspace under the protection of the People's Nationalist Forces. Surrender your weapon and submit to interrogation or I will have no choice but to take you by force, dead or alive.

STARBUCK
(pondering the problem)
What happened to my... the other visitor? The one who landed here before me.

OFFICER
We don't have him... yet.

STARBUCK
You're lying! If he wasn't captured, he'd respond to my communicator.

OFFICER
I'm telling you the truth. I am General Deering. If another like you had been captured, I would know it. That is not the case.

STARBUCK
Then I can't go with you. And I want you to understand that we did not come here as aggressors.

OFFICER
Then submit to us. We will take you into the city for questioning.

STARBUCK
I can't do that. But I won't hurt you, either. Just put you to sleep long enough to complete my mission.

OFFICER
Men...

FUEL CONSERVATION AND ASTRALONS!

I've transcribed the first few scenes from the script where Apollo and Zac are out on patrol (dialogue only, not the descriptions of the action). There's a lot of extra material (in blue) that includes Zac being concerned about fleet fuel conservation rules and something called "astralons." Here's what the non-canon Encyclopedia Galactica has to say about astralons:

“Astralons are high-velocity particles found in deep space. They range in size from microscopic diameters up to several metrons in width. Although armored battle craft can pass through Astralon clouds unharmed, unshielded civilian vehicles can be severely damaged by them. The smallest Astralons are in many ways the most dangerous since they cannot be detected by low-power scanners, but may cause hull leakage and lead to loss of on-board atmospheric pressure.”

Anyway, here are the scenes from the script:

__________________________________

ZAC
Somehow it’s different out here.

APOLLO
This is nothing. When the war is officially over, we may be able to get back to deep star exploration. That’s the challenge, Zac. Who knows what we’ll find beyond the twelve colonies?

ZAC
Long as it’s not more Cylons. They give me the creeps. Have you ever seen one in person?

APOLLO
Yes, Zac… I have.

ZAC
Are you looking forward to peace with them?

APOLLO
If you mean, do I believe in peace with the Cylons, I don’t know. But I don’t think we’d better be discussing it over the com. It might be a little embarrassing back aboard the fleet. Come on,
let’s roll over and have a look at Lianus Vector.

*****

ZAC
Apollo, two targets on my scanner, just above the old moon, Cimtar.

APOLLO
I got it. Probably a Cylon patrol.

ZAC
Awful long way from home. Where’s their base ship?

APOLLO
No base ship. Long-range reconnaissance craft. Strange, I’m not picking up anything but static beyond those guys.

ZAC
Me too. I thought it was my scanner.

APOLLO
Could be a storm. The fleet will be coming right through it. We’d better go have a look. Kick in the turbos.

ZAC
Apollo, the standing orders on conserving fuel specifically forbid use of turbos, except under battle conditions.

APOLLO
Kid, you’re on the front lines now. Anything goes.

[Apollo spots the tanker]

APOLLO
What is it?

ZAC
Tell ya in a flash. … Warbook says a Cylon tanker. Scanner reads it empty.

APOLLO
What’s an empty tanker doing out here?

ZAC
And where’s the other ship?

APOLLO
Screened off by this one. Wonder what they’re hiding.

ZAC
I don’t know, but it’s awfully close to that preciptum layer. Could be full of astralons.

APOLLO
We came to look.

ZAC
Be careful, Apollo, I have a funny feeling about this.

APOLLO
You’re not old enough to have funny feelings! Besides, while we’re stuck out on patrol, Starbuck’s pulled a couple of those Geminis into a card game. I want to get back before he cleans ’em out.

*****

APOLLO
There’s the other ship tucked in nice and neat. Now, what’s she doing? … I can’t read anything inside. She’s jamming us.

ZAC
Warbook says she’s a freighter.

APOLLO
My foot. If she’s jamming us, she’s hiding something. I’m going around her.

ZAC
(alarmed)
That’ll put you smack in that storm layer. If it’s astralons, it’ll rip us apart.

APOLLO
Not us, kid. You stay put. I don’t want it said I taught my kid brother bad habits on his first patrol.

ZAC
The jamming is knocking out my scanner. Where are you, Apollo!!!

APOLLO
Nothing but a harmless mist. Not heavy at all. I don’t see why they’d send up all that electronic…

ZAC
Apollo? What’s going on?

APOLLO
Let’s get out of here.

ZAC
Why?

APOLLO
I’ll explain laterrrr….

ZAC
Apollo, for a couple of harmless tankers, it seems to me you’re burning up an awful lot of unnecessary…

[Explosions, followed by Cylon fighters firing]

ZAC
I see what you mean.

APOLLO
They’re jamming our transmissions, kid. We’ve got to get back. It’s an ambush… and they’ve got enough fire power to destroy the entire fleet.

________________________________

Note that a bit of the dialogue is reversed between Zac and Apollo versus what ended up on screen. Also, Apollo talking about Cylon reconnaissance craft makes more sense as a response to Zac's "two targets," as opposed to his onscreen response, "Could be a storm."

The end of "Lost Planet of the Gods" was radically rewritten, I think for the better. In the draft of "The Tombs of Kobol" dated August 14, 1978, Boxey didn't get to see Serina on her deathbed. Instead, the episode ended with this scene taking place in Serina's quarters.

______________________________________

Boxey is playing with Muffit, the two of them rolling around in a giggly wrestling match. We hear the door open. Apollo stands in the doorway looking down on the boy and his daggit in joyful play. Boxey spots Apollo and leaps up running to him. Apollo sweeps the boy into his arms.

BOXEY
Apollo!

Apollo is holding the boy very tight and the young boy senses something is wrong, something he doesn’t want to hear. Boxey pulls back slowly… their eyes meet. Boxey slowly looks around.

BOXEY
Where’s Mother?

Apollo can’t hold the eye contact… it’s tearing him apart. Boxey doesn’t want to hear it… hear what he fears is coming. He jumps down and starts towards Muffit.

BOXEY
(a bit too bright)
I taught Muffit a new trick. I’ll show you. Sit up, Muffit. Sit.

APOLLO

(softly)
Boxey….

BOXEY
He can do it… it’s a good trick. Show Father, Muffit. Sit. Sit….

Apollo kneels down beside him. Muffit sits.

BOXEY
See. Isn’t it a good trick?

(beat)
Mother will like it.

APOLLO
Yes… she would have.

Boxey catches the “would have,” but plows on.

BOXEY
She taught Muffit a trick. I’ll show you. Muffit….

Apollo stops Boxey with a gentle hand.

APOLLO
Boxey.

(beat)
Your mother’s… gone.

BOXEY
On a mission….

APOLLO
Boxey… That’s not what I mean.

A long pause, then—

BOXEY
(starting to cry)
You mean she’s dead?

APOLLO
Her body is dead.

BOXEY
I don’t want her to be dead!

APOLLO

(in agony)
Her spirit isn’t. That’s still alive! It can’t die!

BOXEY

(crying)
But, I’ll never see her again!

APOLLO
You’ll always see her, Boxey. She’ll always be with us… always love us. All we have to do is remember… remember….

Boxey is crying and holding tight to Apollo, who seems lost for words for a beat, then—

APOLLO
Close your eyes, son.

(beat)
Remember the time we came in and caught you dressing Muffit in her best dining gown.

Boxey continues to cry, but his eyes are closed.

APOLLO
And she chased the two of you around this compartment, and couldn’t catch you? When she did, you looked so funny she just started to laugh. Remember?

Through the tears, Boxey nods a little.

APOLLO
And the time she baked your yahren cake and you tried to feed it to Muffit?

We slowly pull back. Boxey’s eyes are closed, but his crying is stopping.

BOXEY
And he tried to eat it.

APOLLO

(smiles)
And she put nuts and bolts on the dessert plate for us. Remember?

BOXEY
And we pretended to eat them.

(beat)
I see her, Father! I see her!

We pull through the space window and see the two of them together, eyes closed, smiling.

APOLLO
So do I.

(beat)
Her love and spirit will always be with us… always… forever.

Re: More extended and unused scenes

Only a tiny fragment of the Council of Planners scene from “The Gun on Ice Planet Zero” appears in the DVD extras. Here is the full scene as presented in the script, along with an unused scene on the Galactica bridge that follows. We start with some omitted dialogue that occurs just after Apollo’s party enters the underground village. Dialogue that appears in the DVD extras is in green, while dialogue that appears in neither the episode nor the extras is in blue.

**********

SER 5-9
This passage leads to the bottom of the Research Station. The Planners meet there.

APOLLO
Planners?

SER 5-9
The father-creator made two types of Theta life forms. We are hunters… workers. The Planners are thinkers. They will know best how to approach the Pulsar.
(beat)
You come with me. Tenna will stay with your friends in the village.

**********

COUNCIL OF PLANNERS

The Planners are identical Clones of a second type. Intellectual, fragile. Cowled, they have gaunt faces. Their high-bridged noses are replicas of one another. There are five of them seated at a primitive table. Above them, on the wall, is an emblem of the Experimental Research Station. A weathered mural-photo of Ravashol is on the wall, like a party line picture of Lenin. When the Planners quarrel, it is as though one man were arguing with many selves.

PLANNER ONE
Worker Ser 5-9 is here… in the village!

PLANNER TWO
He was told to keep his marauders out of the village!

PLANNER THREE
I object to calling them marauders. They are guerrilla warriors fighting for liberation….

PLANNER FIVE
Order! Order….

The others subside.

PLANNER ONE
Bring them in.

ANGLE ON THE DOOR

as Planner Four opens it and admits Ser 5-9 and Apollo. They stride forward, stopping just short of the table.

SER 5-9
Members of the Council. We seek your wisdom. This is Flight Captain Apollo.
(beat)
From the Battlestar Galactica.

PLANNER THREE
(awed)
The Galactica!

PLANNER FIVE
The Cylons have posted warnings against you throughout the star system!

PLANNER ONE
Every outpost is on permanent alert!

PLANNER TWO
If he is discovered here…
(beat)
This must be reported!

SER 5-9
Nothing will be reported.

PLANNER TWO
That is not for you to say.

SER 5-9
Apollo and his men can….

PLANNER FOUR
There are others!

SER 5-9
Yes. They have come to destroy the Ravashol Pulsar.

The Planners pale and visibly tremble.

PLANNER TWO
Impossible!

APOLLO
Impossible or not… we’re going to try.

ON THE COUNCIL

They are terrified and huddle. After a beat….

PLANNER ONE
We will discuss your request and give you our answer in… in a few megacentons.

APOLLO
We don’t have time for bureaucratic discussions!
The fleet will soon be within range of the Pulsar. It must be destroyed!

PLANNER THREE
We cannot rush into this. Such matters must be discussed.
(beat)
I am sorry.

APOLLO
(disgusted)
Let’s get out of here.

Starbuck [sic] turns for the door.

PLANNER FOUR
We will give you our answer… in time.

SER 5-9
(intense)
Just don’t betray us.

He exits. We hold on the worried council for a beat… then….

GALACTICA BRIDGE – ON ATHENA

as she monitors the scanner screen..

ATHENA
Commander, Cylon advance fighters circling the fleet just outside our patrols.

CLOSE ON ADAMA AND TIGH

ADAMA
They’re looking for a straggler to pick off.
(to Flight Officer)
What’s our fleet spacing?

FLIGHT OFFICER
Standard defense… between each ship.

ADAMA
(gravely)
Close to twenty-five.

TIGH
Commander, some of our ships have cadets at the helm. The collision risk….

ADAMA
(nods)
I know. It’s a chance we’ll have to take. I want to give our fighters a tighter circle to defend.

TIGH
Yes, sir.

He exits and we move in on Adama. He is very worried.

**********

After this, Ser 5-9 tells Apollo he will take him directly to Ravashol because the Planners were of no help. Meanwhile, in a brief scene, Planner Two reports to Vulpa, whispering something inaudibly about the presence of Apollo’s team. This explains why the Cylons suddenly start searching the village for humans even though the patrol never spotted them.

Note that Adama in the unused scene is telling Tigh to decrease spacing between the ships in the fleet, whereas in the broadcast version he twice orders the spacing increased.
