My trip to 1978...

Post by Cylon-Knight » Mon Nov 10, 2008 9:48 pm

Yesterday I went to an antique mall and wound up back to 1978!
I added to my classic BSG collection:

Two copies of the Marvel Comics BATTLESTAR GALACTICA official adaptation. This is VERY nice - double sized (over sized) book. I'll be reading it soon, there is an article about the show in the middle of the comic.

I continued along in 1978, looking at dealer booths and found this!

Now, as far as I can tell so far (need time to look it over again) there are two parts missing ... I got the seller to reduce the price by $5 due to that. One is an engine "square" - that one is the bummer, but I'm sure I can clone the engine square I do have with some hobby mold maker and maybe some plaster. The second missing part is a tiny chunk of plastic that is part of the missile shooter - don't really need the rubberband powered shooting - this will be a display, not a toy.

Now, I didn't buy this one - still there for $17.50 if anyone "needs" it:

(I put the cup next to it, so you could tell the scale. It is a good size toy, and in okay shape. The string you pull on the neck to make it "speak" works... but the sound is more like a screaming old lady - not a robo-space-dog! lol

I'm sure Daggitgirl would have loved the Daggit....

The raider looked a good find, shame it wasn't fully complete though..

Yeah, I took the photo just for Daggit girl... *say cheese daggit*

I'll post some more photos of the raider and hope to scan some of the book. The inside front cover of the book is a "WOW" cylon illustration.

I've got the Marvel Super Special, too.

I also could provide a few scans if you wish...

Red Eye, did you read in the book (in the center part about the show) where it explains the Cylons? It says that they are reptiles that modify their bodies when infants... like the Borg in Star Trek!

Do you think the person doing the interview was confused?

The Borg of "Star Trek" first appeared in 1989...

But this misguided description of the Cylons could have given the makers of Star Trek an impact for the Borg-concept, who knows...

By the way, I've found the Cylon art of the Super Special while surfing through the net, but I can't remember where...

When I've found it again I'll post the link...

I owned the large comic book back in 1980, well I still do, but I bought my copy in 1980 at a clearance type of bulk over stock drug store. I bent it a little bit taking in home because I was on a motorcycle. Oh the days driving a Yamaha DT 125 cc

Yes, I was wondering if someone "borrowed" the idea for the borg... interesting!

daggitgirl you around here still? I got the Daggit toy we emailed about back and forth. Did you still want it? I've not gotten an email back for you for some time.

Let me know if you'd still want the Daggit, if not that's okay. I'll just put it up for sale another way. For now, I've got it and the Daggit is waiting for a good home :)

Please let me know if you see this post.
