3 Foot Salzo Galactica
Here are some pics of my build of Mike Salzo's awesome 37.5inch Galactica. It's a great kit and the next best thing to having a 6 footer in your basement! I'll add more pics in a bit.
That's the Monogram kit in front.

A mini monster indeed! I'm having the mesh for the back of the engines 3D printed this weekend. If that turns out well I may have other parts 3D printed for it as well.

Re: 3 Foot Salzo Galactica
Yes, that fantastic build was done by Randy Cooper. I am using his build as my inspiration. Mine will be lit as well. I'm using .5mm fiber optics. Like Randy, mine will not be an "exact" replica of the Galactica. He added a bunch of extra detail to his. However, mine will not be named Galactica. I'm still working on a non canon name for mine, but am leaning toward Titanic for some strange reason.
Here are a few more pics of the build so far.
Detail on this kit is incredible!
Internal bracing in the form of brass tubes. The head and engine block are attached to the main body by 1/4 in bolts. These brass tubes slide over the bolts tying the whole ship together. They were JB Welded in place for a rock solid attachment. This helps support the ship so it will not bend under its own weight over time.
Scratchbuilding the landing bays. Four of these will be placed inside each bay with additional detail added.
And what goes in a landing bay? Why, tiny Vipers of course. These were built from nine pieces of plastic sheet and rod. It's so small my camera could not focus on it well.
First test of engine mesh material. It's called Tule. Not real happy, so I am having the mesh 3D printed this weekend.
Also, this ship will not use white LEDs for the engines. I'll be using blue LEDs for this. This what they will look like. This pic is of my old Monogram kit that got shelved. I prefer blue engine lights.

I love the blue lights too, robiwon.
Wow! Landing bays too? *IMPRESSED*
I was sort of thinking of skipping them on my 1:1 battlestar, just do the photo like the studio did... BLUSH
I'll just say it will be "screen accurate" ... instead of "I'm lazy." LOL

Thanks for the comments guys. Nice to know you guys appreciate my work! Cylon-Knight, not lazy just accurate. Everyone who builds models will always add their own touch to what they do. That's why I'm not worried about adding my own details and naming it something other than what we saw or heard about. More to come.

Re: 3 Foot Salzo Galactica
Recieved my 3D printed engine mesh today. It turned out very nice! My printer guy printed five panels, one to fit behind each panel, and shapped to fit! I have to do a little sanding to remove some fine print lines on the face and shoot them with some flat clear. Overall. very happy with them. My bridge module is being 3D rendered right now. As soon as that's done I'll send the file to my friend to have that printed!
I'll post pics of the engine mesh when I get home from work tonight.
