I just received my Cylon Commander Helmet back from the chromer! I still need to paint it but I wanted to ask what everyone though about the color scheme.
Should I go:
Flat Black for the Eye and Gloss Black for the Grill and Panels?
Or:
Flat Black for the Eye and Metallic Black for the Grill and Panels?

I assume it's agreed that the eye on the Gold & Silver Cylons is Flat Black right? Also, do you know if the Grill and the Panel colors are the same for the Gold? Or are they two different shades? The Silver Cylon was Gunmetal for both but it seems the Grill is Semi-Gloss Black while the Panels are Gloss Black for the Gold. Of course, I understand that lighting is very deceiving where pics are concerned. Am I making sense???

While taking a look at this photo of the original Vulpa helmet, I'd go for a flat black at the visor, semi-gloss for the mouthpiece and gloss for helmet panels:

You picked up a nice new project, by the way! The chroming came out great.

Thanks! Yeah that was the photo I saw that made me think two shades of Black were used. But, I have to think back to the original prop painter... While it makes sense to have the lens area Flat Black (so the eye would not reflect off anything), it actually does not make sense as to why he would paint the Grill and Panels two different shades. I know i'm kind of answering my own question but I think I should go the same Semi-Gloss Black for both the Grill and Panels.
More important though, do the Gold Cylons have Black painted "Horse Shoe" areas?

Okay, all semi-gloss black it is.
About the horse shoe question: I'd say yes.
But perhaps Dale will know for sure since he owned an original Command Centurion helmet.

semi gloss at the most. I must say that just watching Vulpa on the TV I want to say it was gloss... but from this shot of an original commander it looks to be semi...

What is the horse shoe question? About the mouth grill?

Thanks for chiming in! Is the inside edge of the "mouth" on the Commander Helmets painted Black? On the Chrome Helmets it's just Chrome but pics suggest that the Commander's were actually painted. Also, what do you think on the Grill and Panel shading, Semi-Gloss or Gloss Black? Thanks!

Finished! The Semi-Gloss Black was definitely the way to go and I agree with you Red Eye, the "horseshoe" looks like it should be Black so I went ahead and sprayed it up! Thanks for the replies!

TOO COOL!
I can almost hear him say: "Presenting his Eminence, our Imperious Leader."
