Well, well, well fellow Cylons. What's been going on? BSG had its 33rd birthday... I've redesigned the design that no one ever saw for CylonEmpire.com - it will be going online in a few weeks. And I've joined Blackstar Squadron to further our knowledge of evil Colonials and join forces with them to expand Classic BSG costume knowledge to the world... AND

I've got me a book on how to sew from the library, and some cording too.
Image
(Sorry, this pic was taken with my cell phone - I'm lazy tonight)

NOW I will start to read and learn about sewing and teach my self the craft of under suit making. After that... :erk:

Time for an update, my Tin Can brothers!

I have read my "how-to-sew" book. Need to get with my step-mom on using her machine and taking a try at it. I bought 4 yards (from a MASSIVE bolt) of vinyl today. So I have the base fabric and vinyl fabric - and an under suit dream! We'll see what happens in time...

In other news, my rifle is one big step closer to being totally done!
ImageImage
Left: The dowel rod painted silver - see it - sticking out in my back yard... HA
Right: Two silver disks from Zeta tailor made to fit into our Sean rifles. Thanks Zeta!!!
I painted them on my old-n-nasty-busted-falling-over picnic table in the back yard, so handy for spray painting ;)
The holes support the dowel rod "floating" in the tube so the lights can be fixed in place to shine through each slot in the barrel.
(Later each disk would get a notch that allows the wires to pass through from the barrel to the body were the electronics are)

ImageImage
Left: The disk in the barrel. You can see how antoher notch would be needed for wires to also fit.
Right: THE WIRES! Here I am putting on all the wires I am talking about. Zeta's super cool electronics kit!
Here I've just put on the first set of LEDs' wires.

ImageImage
Left: Second set put on. View from the bottom of the board.
Right: The two wires for the switch attached.

ImageImage
Left: All the wires are on! WHOOO -PLUS- THIS IS MY 400th picture in my build. SEE... photos, or it didn't happen! lol
Right: All done, time to turn it on and see if it explodes... *battery applied* IT WORKS! (no explosion). Rock on.

BUT WAIT! THERE'S MORE!
Here is a super cool (10 MB mpg file) video of the lights in action!
(Sorry, I don't know how to get it any smaller. And I don't want to get a YouTube/other account. I already have 983,348 log in's to remember )

Left to do:
  • My brother is working on the nozzle tip, drilling out a disk to attach to the tip so it will mount just right. I don't have a large enough bit, dirll press, or vice. DANG! Sean provided a prototype tip and a CORA tip. The CORA tip is the one being modified with Sean's disk.
  • Paint the fins on the nozzle once it is ready to put on
  • Paint the side rails and panels, put them on
  • Put a power switch inline to the battery. This will be hidden inside the rifle. Have to take the lid off to power it on.
  • Put in the trigger and finish that off. That is the step that is stressing me the most... how to do it, get it to look nice, etc.
  • The bayonet (I have two actually) is ready to just pop on
On a side note... I felt REALLY nervous today taking the rifle outside, to drive it over to my brother's house. To show him the nozzle and switch stuff. I just felt weird/nervous about it. Didn't want anyone to freak out that I had this massive fire arm! :?
I am thinking about some sort of orange tip for it... the universal "fake gun" signal. I'm not really worried about holding it in full Cylon dress, but in my "street cloths" just walking around with it I'm too nervous. There are many real life mistakes where Police think a toy is real from a distance. I don't want to have to STRESS anymore than I do. Man, stress should be my middle name...

AMAZING work as usual! Please keep it coming. :cylon:

Say, could you tell me anything more about the vinyl you got for your undersuit?

Is it gunmetal in color?

Looks fantastic. Once i get over my Pneumonia I plan to finish mine up as well.
If "they" say it can't be done, it just means "they" cant do it.

Thank you Red Eye. You know I will continue to post large amounts of rambling updates - and photos is my middle name ;)
And, yes, the vinyl is as close to gunmetal as I could find.

Here is the happy trio of my fabrics. For all the purists... I know they are not EXACT 1:1 matches in color or fabric -but- I 'm a Cylon and I do what I want! :cylon:
Image
Left third: The base fabric, a light gray. Missing the slight "plumb" color, but this is all I could find and am done trying to find something better for now. Eager to get under suit #1 started.
Middle third: The vinyl, a gun metal (dark) gray the next darker color choice was black. And lighter was about exactly the same as the fabric above. So this was the way to go.
Shout out to Mrs. Cylon-Knight - I got 4 yards of this vinyl for the price of 2 with a 50% coupon she got me. $80 worth of fabric for only $40. w00t
Right third: The metal mesh skirting. It has about 14 different shades of gray when the light hits it!!! ... but you can see "overall" its an okay match to some of the little squares that are not reflecting.

I think it'll make an okay suit. I hope it will turn out more how the actual suit did on screen. It did not look plumb - but gray. The red tints were lost on screen and I think everyone remembers a gray/black Cylon. We hard-core builders know that's not the case... but I am too lazy/cheap/tired of looking for 1:1 fabric at this point in time.

You think it looks okay, Red Eye?

Thank you jclayman99! Happy to keep my friends posted on the (little ) progress I make when I do get some done.
Yikes! Pneumonia! Don't mess with that - take care, rest up and get well. SO SAY WE ALL!

Thanks for this insight!

I think it's okay. Before I've started my research on the Centurion costume, I also thought the basic fabric of the undersuit was silver, not plum.

I've also watched the video by now! Sensational work.

It almost makes me feel sorry that my rifle is already finished, making it impossible to add any inner electronics anymore.

opps was re-reading my post and my skirting IS 1:1 - the other two fabrics are not 1:1.
I'm 1/3 of the way there.
