If you watch closely at the photos of the original helmet Dale posted earlier, you can spot the additional slit above the scanner, which was taped over using chrome tape like it was done hiding the seams.

I did not see that before. The little furrow above the eye slot on the brow. A lot of character is in that brow dent.

Nice to know you've started working on the insignias! Please post some pics when you have something to show us.

wow red eye that looks great! I got started with the slit.
I also recut and nearly removed 3/16ths of material from the seam. The cora spacer fit perfectly once I matched Cylon Gold's measurements. I feel a lot better about using the styrene. I am planning on real chrome plating their is a special procedure to follow> lacquer primer followed by catalyzed polyurethane primer to all exposed styrene. It entails a copper layer of real metal and a chrome layer. Its very durable. like the terminators.

Unless that copper method has a updated version from 10 years ago the samples I have seen have a bluish tint to them.

We get it done all the time from artcraft they do an excellent job. Iron man mark 2. Clean chrome, nice and tough, we send a lot of stuff that way so I can maybe share a chrome bed. I have a "demons mask" to make soon to and I have to chrome that as well.

I have been prepping the zeta eye. I should have something to show soon, I may have an hour later to mess with the insignias some more.

I'll have to give them a try but I do love Vac Met. They chromed the Cylons originally for Uni.

Nicely done. Did you make the LED holder? Any problems?

Yes I made the holder from 1/4 black L200 foam. Like a charm! I made it go a little faster a minute ago. Well done on the eye zeta! Just wanting the sound wires at this point.

Pic of the cable to use.

Image

They can be found in most computers, they are the cables that connect the CD-Rom drives to the sound card.
The end with the tab snaps in the controller board, the other end would be cut off and attached to a amplifier and speaker.
Only the right channel has sound. The red wire is positive and the black wire is negative (ground).

you can get them anywhere computers are sold or net. just search for " cd-rom audio cable "

Love the eye skullbeast! LOOKS JUST LIKE MINE ;) Zeta does great work... maybe you should hit him up for a bulb version too (not LEDs) if you are going for an absolute screen used faithful reproduction, original 1978 Cylons have light bulb eyes - not brighter, cooler running, less power (better!) LEDs. How are you going to diffuse the LEDs? Do you have any super cool tricks in your amazing workshop for that you can pass on to your most-favorite Forum Admin ever? ;)

Next item: Are you going to go chrome (Centurion) or gold (Command Centurion) with your plate? Chrome would match up with the insignia you were making, that Centurion was not a Command Centurion (Gold).

Oops, one more item I thought up - any idea how much the insignia might cost? (Was that asked before somewhere, sorry, fuzzy memory at the moment.)
