An other builders video posted
OK I posted a photo showing off some details on a helmet that was already trimmed out, but needed to be detailed out with sand paper. I started out with a magnifying glass ti inspect the helmet surface to see what needed to be taken down. I used a Sharpie black marker to high light those areas that needed attention. The video then picks up at that point. I started out with 300 grit sand paper, and work my way up with 400, 500, 600, jump a bit to 800, and then 1000 grit sand paper. This went very quick, and will give your helmet the best detailing out you will need if your going to chrome your helmet. This is to in prove the luster factor to give your helmet the best mirror image you can acquire.

Okay. I got to see the video *YES* awesome
So... Is your primer white - or does that have no primer yet, just white plastic? Would you suggest white primer over a gray primer? Do they make white primer? Does a chrome plate "care" about a white or gray primer... does the primer color effect the brightness/quality of chrome? Wow, that's a lot of question in a row - Isn't it?!

A base coat really isn't necessary to hand over to the chromer, but more for yourself to see the defects in the finish, so you can go detail out that certain area. The color really doesn't matter either. I think gray just helps with shadowing more than anything else.

Drat. I have to watch it at home tonight.
I got my gray primer Would you sand first, since it is OBVIOUS I have putty to sand, then prime and sand more? If I prime now I'll sand off it all around the seams I'm sure.

Sand as much as you think needs to be done, and then spray the primer on. Then you will need to go back and fix the little dimples.Cylon-Knight wrote:Drat. I have to watch it at home tonight.
