Colonial Fighters Collection

Post by Tinman » Wed Nov 25, 2009 9:45 pm

I thought all of you might like to see a little project I am working on. I have been playing around with some art work for fighter designs in the BSG World.

The basic work started out with a great piece of artwork done by B.J. Olejink - without which none of mine would be possible. If you haven't seen his site, check it out on the web.

OK... lets get on with it. Click on icon for full sized image.

VIPER MK.II
This is just basicly Mr. Olejink's Viper artwork with new markings applied by me for the 62nd FS and a emblem on the tail for Battlestar Trident's patch (similar to the TOS Pegasus patch).
Image

SCORPION MK.II HEAVY FIGHTER
This is basicly a modified Viper with the third engine lowered down partially behind the cockpit along the lines of the Mk.II BSG2 Viper. The fighter also has a third blaster cannon mounted in the verticle tail firing over the cockpit.
Image

PYTHON MK.I EW / ECM FIGHTER
This fighter has the same engine configuration as the Scorpion. The Python is stretched out for a second cockpit seat for the "Wizo" to operate all the newly installed electronic equipment. The EW/ECM equipment is carried in pods on the wingtips and verticle tail as well as having antennas placed in specific positions on the wings and fuselage.

What if the Colonials had "bomber" Vipers...
Ponder that!

I saw the tail wing numbering and thought I would Google it. That belongs to a Fairchild 24R-9.

Some reason I don't think these two look alike...LoL, but awesome art work.

Here is another one. This again started as someone elses design I take is based on the BSG2 MK.VII Viper. I changed the coloring to tone it down some and added lots of detail to the fuelage and engines. I also added the wing-tip blaster cannons as on the original design along with the markings for my RPG ship.

Nah, the BOP looks like a tadpole to me, ugly as CRAP IMHO. Only a Klingon would be caught dead in one.

Actually I think this design is sharper and sleeker looking than the MK.VII VIPER used in BSG2 (That is another ugly-duckling) and is also a step up from the original design for the Scarlet Viper. IMHO the artest did a great job on the design. It looks like a natural progression from the MK.VII for a superior fighter design.

Have to say it would also look better without the "Funky" red color.

OK, here is my latest......

ASP MK.IV STRIKE FIGHTER
This 2 man fighter has an "X" configuration set of wings as well as dispensing with the single verticle tail of the Viper for smaller twin tails. It has a standard armament of 4x Turbo-Lasers which can be augmented with missiles (Mk.22 "Can-Opener" Anti-Ship missiles shown) or free-fall Solonite weapons on hardpoints under the wings. This model of the Asp is used for Tactical Strikes on enemy ships as well as ground targets and has a limited capability as a Point Defense Interceptor.

I modified my ASP Fighters to try and make them look more like the VIPER MK.II from BSG2. You can check out the differences from those in the first post. There are also full histories for these fighters but you will have to wait till the project I am working on is done to see that. Enjoy.
