Egyptian Influences in Battlestar

Post by Cylon-Knight » Thu Oct 15, 2009 10:13 pm

Along with the Viper pilot helmets and a few other items - Battlestar has quite a few "Egyptian" influences to tie it into Earth's culture.

I was re-watching The Saga of Star World and noticed that on Caprica there are some pyramids!

Here is a screen cap:

Another and maybe the best proof for a link to the acient Egypt are the ruins on Kobol...

YES! That is so cool how they put in items like that to make the Colonies seem linked to Earth.

I was watching the bonus features on the DVDs and they actually sent actors dressed like Adama, Apollo and Sernia to Egypt for these shots.

In fact the person portraying Serina is actually a young boy since it was not allowed to let a woman wear pants in their country.

If I recall they sent the costumes not the actors, and used actors that were in country, but then I might not remember correctly after 31 years. That isn't a bounce item, just something I read in Star Log or something like that back in the production days.

Other Egyptian tie-ins were the 9th lord of Kobol as a mummy with a funerary mask and heqa scepter, the box that Adama kept the key in and the motif of the Warrior and Bridge tunics mimics the Egyptian broad collar.
