Baltar's Cylon Raider helmet

Post by Red Eye » Mon Feb 23, 2009 11:46 am

I was able to get a custom kit of Baltar's Cylon Raider helmet as seen in the episode "The Living Legend" recently made by Gordon (a.k.a. spcglider).

I'll keep you updated with any news of this new project of mine.

Very cool. Sounds like a great project... post some photos when you can of it. Doesn't that helmet have a red light in? I'll have to re-watch the show.

So, I wonder what the purpose of wearing the helmet was... like to the show's plot/functions of being in a Raider? Could it be needed for a communication link to the BaseStar, other Raiders, etc.? Certainly it wasn

It was great idea of Gordon to make a kit out of it so that multiple collectors have the chance to own this great looking prop.

On the other side, it's a pity that it appeared in only one episode...

They could have shown it again in the episode "Baltar's Escape" during the scene at the end where he sits in the Raider cockpit with his two reassembled Centurions.

Here are the first pictures of my Baltar helmet together with a few screencaps from the DVD.

As usual, a few minor flaws in the mold have to be worked out before it can be painted, not to mention the following installment of the electronics that go inside the red light box at the crest of the helmet...

I have spoken with the guy that owns the original screen used helmet, and it is rumored the John (Baltar) drop it is why it is damaged in the corner. It isn''t able to be seen on camera but a straight up photo shows the damage real easy.

Interesting to hear that...

By the way: Do you have any pictures of the original screen-used helmet I could use as reference?

WOW, very cool Red Eye. Thanks for the photos. The build is looking great! Let us know how the lighting goes... photos photos photos :P

In the context of the show, it is interesting that the helmet is chrome in color, not gold. Also the modified eye shape is probably to allow for a human to look out/be seen better, a lot more angles on Baltar's setup. It is also interesting that the side panel is chrome still - not a contrasting dark gray.

Thanks! I'll keep you posted on that, too.

Are you sure about the color? I thought it's gold...

Well my goodness! It IS GOLD!

And I see GoldCylon's post above that he chromed them gold too. AND - that screen cap you have of them looking out at the Pegasus - you can see that it is gold compared to the Centurion in front of him.

I am not able to share the photo I have, but I will say that the screen caps are just about as good. Matter of fact better because they show different angels that the single photo I have doesn't. The only thing I can say is the true color is the bronze color, not the gold color like I tinted them like, but really I didn't want to color them at all, but I needed to make them as close as possible to screen accurate. Note the bronze is the same color as Vulpa also thus the higher ranked Cylon.

If you send me the photo to my private email-address and if I use it for my own personal needs without re-posting it anywhere, I can't see any problems with it...

AAAAAH MAN!
heehee

That's cool. I know how few and far between "free time" is to work on hobbies. But, I know you've probably put the helmet on in its present state and said a few classic Baltar lines  (I would! HA)
