Resurrection Ship, Part 1

The second season of BATTLESTAR GALACTICA has washed away any lingering resentment of the re-imagined series in this aging fan's heart.

This episode of the SCI-FI Channel's 'Season 2.5' continues the multi-leveled and challenging themes of the series, from the intensely personal drama of the characters and political intrigue to the meaty question: "what defines a human being?"

The interplay between Edward James Olmos' Commander Adama and Mary McDonnell's President Laura Roslin is wonderful, with the hard-headed solider's vunerablity and compassion allowed to be fleetingly shown, and a stunning reminder of the mystically-inclined and humanistic politician's pragmatic and even ruthless core coming to the surface.

Baltar (James Callis) continues to work with the severly abused copy of the Cylon Number Six (Tricia Helfer) aboard the Pegaus, and learns some important information about the Ressurection Ship of the title. He also learns how it's destruction could have an unprecedented effect upon the prisoner -- a fate which he realizes she is appallingly eager to meet.

We learn more about the fanatical lengths Admiral Cain has gone to in order to continue the war against the Cylons, enough to horrify Colonel Tigh ( Michael Hogan) and Adama -- perhaps with the self-awareness as to how close they have come (more than once) to going down the same path.

The next episode promises to ratchet up the tension, with the newly-promoted Starbuck (Katee Sackoff) caught in an incredible moral quandry, with the lives of Cain, Adama, and ultimatley the future of the fleet in her hands.
