Unfinished scenes

I'd like to use this thread for transcribing some of the "bonus" scenes that we have footage for, but that don't appear in any completed version of the episodes. Starting with the "shirtless Jolly" Pyramid scene that was reportedly filmed on the first shooting day ever:

Just to keep the game instructive, and because you’re new to it, I’ll, uh, I’ll just wager…
(slides several cubits across the table)

GEMON
Despite the humbleness of this hand, for the honor of our home colony Gemini, we must challenge you. And, for the glory of our colony—

PILOT
(whispering to another player)
You gonna stay in or fold?

GEMON
— another share of equal measure.

STARBUCK
(clears throat)
Well, in the name of our planet Caprica and for her everlasting glory, I’ll, um—
(clicks tongue)
I’ll measure your increase, and double it.

GREENBEAN
(whispering)
Oh, man.

BOOMER
(walks over to Starbuck)
Uh, can we have a word with you in private?

STARBUCK
Sure. Mm.

BOOMER
(to the other players)
Excuse us.

STARBUCK
Back in a flash, fellas.

(Boomer and Starbuck cross the room to meet with Greenbean and Jolly.)

BOOMER
Have you gone crazy?

STARBUCK
Boomer, weren’t ya listenin’? This is for the glory of Caprica. Now, doesn’t that mean anything to ya? Look, fellas, have I ever steered you guys wrong?

GREENBEAN
(laughs slightly in disbelief)

STARBUCK
All right, all right, look at it this way. We’ll double our money. I’m tellin’ you, those guys are tryin’ to buy that pot.

JOLLY
I thought you said Geminis didn’t understand this game.

STARBUCK
Yeah, well, they, um, caught on fast. Now, come on, or we’ll lose everything we got in the game. I’m tellin’ ya.

BOOMER
(sighs)

STARBUCK
All right.
(the others reluctantly produce more cubits for Starbuck’s wager)
Mm-hmm. Thank you. And— thanks.
(returns to table and shows his cards)
Beat that.

(The Gemon does so and rakes in the pot.)

OTHER GEMON
(whispering)
Let’s deal in.

(The Gemon with the winning hand tosses Starbuck one cubit back.)

STARBUCK
Uhh— thanks.

[Specter]

The extended scene in the Gemini freighter:

APOLLO
Your needs will be attended to. Be patient. Just be glad you’re alive. Your needs will be attended to.

MALE VOICE
We need food!

SECOND WOMAN
And medicine! There are wounded with us!

STARBUCK
That’s why we’ve come to help solve all these problems.

MALE VOICE
The problem is we’re all going to die.

APOLLO
No one’s going to die! Now, it’s going to take a little time, but we’re just now finding out how many of us have survived and who we are. We need to know your skill levels so we can put them to work helping each other. Boomer, have Core Control know about this problem. Now, does anyone need immediate life station aid?

The alternate scene in Apollo's landram, which had to be reshot after the Cylons were changed from living beings to androids:

APOLLO
Now, your mission, Boxey, is to keep your eye on that readout. When the counter gets up to ten, it means we’re right on top of a rich tylium deposit.

BOXEY
Yes, sir.

APOLLO
(laughs)
We don’t dare stop on any one planet for too long.

BOXEY
I don’t see why we had to leave home at all. Why’d those people want to hurt us?

APOLLO
Because there are and have always been living beings who cannot accept anything they don’t understand, anything different.

(Muffit whines.)

BOXEY
You mean they’re stupid?

APOLLO
I guess by our standards, yes, they are. How can it be anything but stupid to kill what you don’t understand?

BOXEY
Why don’t we kill them back?

APOLLO
(sighs)
Because then we’d be changing what we are, to be like them. We don’t believe in war.
(Muffit barks and whines)
But the opposite of war is not necessarily peace. What we want is freedom, the right to be left alone. But there’s always the chance someone will come along and spoil everything.

BOXEY
You kill them?

APOLLO
(with a laugh)
Boxey, you have a way of reducing everything to very simple terms. Maybe you’re right. Maybe in the final analysis, what we’re really talkin’ about is life or death.
(sighs)
Life is precious, and no one has the right to tamper with another’s without running the risk of forfeiting their own. I think we’re getting a little too deep for a boy your age.

BOXEY
Why? You could die at any age, can’t you?

(Apollo looks to Serina.)

SERINA
Yes, Boxey, you can.

[Specter]

The two deleted scenes with Serina and Dr. Paye:

(Apollo escorts Serina to the life station.)

PAYE
Well, Serina! You look as ravishing as you do on transmission. I love your programs.

SERINA
You’re very kind.

PAYE
I’m all set up for you. Captain, if you want to have a seat outside?

APOLLO
No, I think I’ll see my father while I’m here.
(to Serina)
If you need me, I’ll be in Core Center, okay?

SERINA
Hmm.
(they kiss)
If it’s contagious, you’ve got it.

APOLLO
I’m willing to share anything you’ve got.
(sighs)
Take good care of her, doc, okay?
(exits)

PAYE
Do I detect a blossoming romance in the core of the fleet?

SERINA
Well, I can only speak for myself, Doctor.
(clicks tongue)
But it runs deep.

PAYE
Tell me the symptoms. Of the problem, not the romance.
(laughs)

SERINA
Well, it’s unlike anything I’ve ever felt before. A general weakness, a – a lapsing of sensation in the fingertips, and lightness of head.
(laughs)
Maybe I’m an alarmist, Doctor, but I am frightened. Has anybody else complained of anything like this?

(Exiting the life station, Dr. Paye and Serina walk into a corridor.)

PAYE
(sighs)
We’ve had several other cases. The symptoms are the same.

SERINA
You don’t know what it is?

PAYE
Oh, I have an idea.

SERINA
Even a theory, or—?

PAYE
Oh, it’s more than a theory. Are you familiar with the problem that we’ve had with the food we brought from home?

SERINA
Yes, of course. Apparently the Cylons have been intermixing some sort of neutron weapon with their explosives and it contaminated the food.

PAYE
Broke down the cellular structure.

SERINA
Wh— Well, what has that got to do with it?

PAYE
It’s happening to people.

SERINA
Oh, my God.

PAYE
Not many. Just a few who may have been exposed to that weapon.

SERINA
What’s gonna happen to me?

PAYE
Within the limits of my knowledge, I can tell you there’ll be a gradual loss of strength.

SERINA
How far will that loss go?

PAYE
Well, as I say, I’ve never experienced this.

SERINA
(sighs)
W-what’s the condition of the others?

PAYE
Serina, you can’t judge one patient’s condition by another’s.

SERINA
(sighs in frustration)
Doctor!

PAYE
They’ve all died.

SERINA
(sighs)

PAYE
I’ll alert Captain Apollo.

SERINA
No. No, no, don’t tell anyone.

PAYE
But someone’ll need to know, to be able to help you.

SERINA
(sniffs)
How long?

PAYE
Well, they – it took you longer than the others to show symptoms.

SERINA
Don’t make me waste what little time I have left. How long?

PAYE
A few days, at most.

SERINA
(crying, kisses Paye’s hand and nods)

It's always fun trying to transcribe Gemonese. Here's the scene with Starbuck and the old Gemonese woman in the shuttle:

(to the husband)

Ah, Boomer, could you give me a hand translating this old guy?

CASSIOPEIA
I can help if you like.

OLD WOMAN
(to her husband)
Retchi. Retchi reini.

STARBUCK
(to Cassiopeia)
No, that’s all right. You’ll be busy giving me your own information.

OLD WOMAN
Tengo no mabu chi?

STARBUCK
Listen. No— shh, shh. Uh, Boomer?

OLD WOMAN
Gembi?

STARBUCK
Just, ah, one moment.
(to Boomer)
This old guy?
(moves on to Cassiopeia)
See, that— that way the life center’ll be ready for you when we dock.

Father? Father, are you all right?

ADAMA
Uh, if anyone can say he’s all right after what has happened, (sighs) I personally recommend them for catharsis treatment.

ATHENA
(sighs)
That’s not the warrior I’m used to. Come on, what ever happened to the joy of living? To live to fight another day.

ADAMA
(laughs ruefully)
Ah, yes. Yes, the spirit of living. You were aboard the Galactica. You didn’t see their faces down there, the – the old, the young – desperate, screaming, begging for a chance to come aboard, a chance to live. And there I was like – a god, passing out priorities like – like tickets to – to a raffle. Then there was a woman who had a baby in her arms, and as I was boarding the launch to come back she tore at my arm.

ATHENA
Father – father, don’t. Don’t.

ADAMA
I, out of the corner of my eye, saw a guard m-move up to her. I tried to stop him, but he – he f— he flung her away, he t—t— I’m sure he didn’t see the child. I don’t know what happened to that woman. But, God, I don’t want it anymore. Let someone else do it.

ATHENA
Father, if it wasn’t for you, we would all be dead now. Instead, well, many of us are saved. Look out on that starfield. I know that – that that’s the most beautiful sight that – that I’ve ever seen. All the life, a life searching for a new world, a place to live and – and grow, maybe be happy.

ADAMA
Now, there comes a time when the scepter must be handed from the old to the new, when the spirit of the young transcends the wisdom of – of the old.
(sighs)
You’re as beautiful as your mother.

ATHENA
Oh, dad.
(they embrace)

ADAMA
(tearfully)
Now, there are others who I believe are better equipped to lead. And for that, for that I’m grateful.
(sighs and kisses her forehead)

And the family argument scene later in Adama's quarters.

Father, it’s treasonous to even consider stepping down.

ATHENA
Apollo, you have the simple mind of a mechanical drone programmed only to fight.

ADAMA
Athena, please!
(sighs)
Let’s not turn what’s left of our family into a vortex of invective.

ATHENA
Well, I won’t listen to your feelings being battered around by a man who feels absolutely nothing!

ADAMA
That is enough!

ATHENA
(sighs)

ADAMA
I said I wish to resign, not leap into a void. And, Athena, I’m perfectly capable of defending my own actions.

APOLLO
Not by my measure.

ADAMA
And what is your measure? What heartbeat guides you in telling one man he must die while another may live?

APOLLO
Could any man have done better, or been fairer? Did you succumb to influence, or politics, or whimsy? Didn’t you do the best you could?

ADAMA
Yes. Yes. But for the first time, it isn’t enough to know that I did my best. I will sleep only when I know that I will never have to face that agony again.

APOLLO
That, Commander, is cowardice.
(walks out)

ATHENA
Apollo, if you turn on him now—

ADAMA
Let him go. He’s not entirely wrong.

ATHENA
Father, you are no coward.

ADAMA
Maybe – maybe I am, for not speaking out soon enough, when the destruction might have been avoided.

ATHENA
You think there’s someone better qualified to lead?

ADAMA
There has to be, or we’re doomed.

[Cylon-Knight]

Wow, that would have been quite the subplot! If other characters got wind of it and a power struggle started...
