Greetings from West Virginia

Post by RealGoldfinger » Sat Nov 27, 2021 7:14 pm

Hello everyone,

After joining nearly a year ago, I thought it was time to finally say hi.
I’m a long time screen used movie prop collector with a wide variety of interest in the hobby. Specific to this site, I own screen used costumes from Buck Rogers In The 25th Century, The Black Hole, and of course…TOS Battlestar Galactica. I also own several replica Cylon Centurion costumes. Needless to say, I’m a fan.
My screen used Galactica pieces consist of Paul Fix’s Commander Kronus Uniform from “Take The Celestra”. The original Red-Eye helmet from “The Lost Warrior”. And I am now the current owner of the original Cylon Citizen costume as well as the original “Specter” cloak from “The Young Lords”.
The Cylon Citizen and Specter Cloak are now displayed as full sized figures in my collection. To complete the Specter display I had an IL series head custom made as well as having the missing inner cloak recreated.
Anyway, it’s nice to see a site like this where people can come and share mutual interest and show appreciation for these Great Classics!

Best,
Robert

Hello Robert! (A year later ;) - Glad you posted.)

:salute: Your collection is amazing! I'm thrilled to know the items have a happy home with someone who's dedicated to the various classic sci-fi shows that are among the best ever made.

How do you organize all that goodness - lots of display cases and labels?

Hey Cylon-Knight,

Guess the best way to answer your ‘how I display” question is to simply show you. I’m having a custom Red-Eye helmet display being made for that piece. I’ll upload a picture when finished.

Best,
Robert

Appreciate the welcome and comments…
Update: I’m hoping my “Red-Eye” helmet display will be completed in the next week or two. As mentioned before, I will post some pictures of it when finished. In addition to the sweeping red eye, my display builder is currently working on how to include the “locked on to target” effect Red-Eye had before firing his weapon. Note: nothing is being done to alter the original helmet prop in anyway. The display is being designed and built to where the original prop helmet can just simply sit a top of it. The circuits will all be mounted to the base.
I will also post some additional pictures of The Galactica collection, in brighter lighting, as well as throwing in a few pics of the Buck Roger and The Black Hole uniforms.

The eye sounds like it will be an excellent addition, great idea! Looking forward to the update. :cylon:

Hello Everyone,

Here are pictures of the screen used “Red Eye” helmet display I spoke of, as well as additional pictures of screen used wardrobe pieces from Classic Galactic, Buck Rogers and The Black Hole. I have video clips showing the special effects of Specter and Red Eye…if able to upload?

Here are photos of the screen used Cylon Citizen costume with added light effect. As we all know the original light effects was just two blinking lights on the left and right brow. The electronics for the lights is actually still inside the mask, but non working. Achieving the effect that you see in the photos is simply LED lights with a frosted lens. Nothing on the original mask has been altered in anyway to get this look. LEDs are attached to the mannequin head. Even though it’s not accurate to the way the Cylon citizen appeared, most agree that this added light effect is a cool look for the piece/display.

This is some amazing stuff you have collected. I know the guy that made the dents in the Red Eye helmet. He was asked to dent of the helmet before he chromed it. I believe he was the 2nd company that had the contract to chrome the Cylon's and that opened the door for him to be the go to place in Hollywood to get things chromed. His company recently closed up during a downturn in business from COVID. Of and what he did to make the dents was heat up a Craftsmen Philips screwdriver handle and a bit of heat with a blow-dryer to the area to be dented and pushed did he got the results Uni was looking for. Congrats on the being the new home for some of John's pieces. :cylongold: :cylongold: :cylongold:

Hey GoldCylon,

Since taking ownership (thanks John) and having looked inside the ‘Red Eye” helmet many times, your cool story of how the dents were added makes sense…thanks for sharing that. I’d like to be able to upload to the forum videos of the RE display in action. To see the scanning eye working and hearing the lines spoken by RE coming thru the helmet, 44 years later, is extremely cool.
