Roland VT-3 vs VT-4

Is there a benefit to either version in regards to what we would need to use them for? I haven’t used either of them but would be interested in the experiences of someone who has used both. Thanks!

I have the VT-4. I ordered the VT-3 when I ordered my Kropserkel Cylon but was told the 3 was discounted. The 4 is smaller in size and apparently offfers more functions.

The VT3 is about $100 less on eBay than the 4. I am gonna give is a couple weeks and see if a used 4 comes up and decide after that. It looks like size wise the 4 will be easier to deal with

typical with technology always on the improve, especially after I dive in and get a VT3, oh well at least I have it for when I need it.

VT3 is a great piece of kit. Best sounds I can get out of it is deeper gold cylon commander voice. Normal cylon is a tad difficult. I'll wait and see what the VT4 can do, but in the mean time VT3 Will be with me for a while as it can emulate the exact TV voice of at least the commaders.

I hooked the VT4 up to a Aker MR1700. I have been playing with the settings and have it sounding pretty nice. Not exact but ok. I would think in a con setting without a real one playing next to it , 90% of the people will enjoy it.

How much does that unit weigh? Just wonder if it is giving a Cylon choke hold?

The VT3 is a hefty piece of kit.

So... I put the power pack in the front chest plate along with the MP3 and 2 speakers . I also strapped Velcro to the front inner toilet seat and front upper chest plate.

When wearing the chest plate I position it as low as it’ll go, and then secure chest to toilet seat... pulling the toilet seat forward and not choking me. It’s really comfy, and seems heavy but does alright for 4-5 hours of trooping .)

VT4 is 1 lb 4 ounces ( 554 grams )and the Aker is 11 ounces (314 grams). So if I put the speaker in the front and the mixer in the back it should all balance out

I bought the VT-4 and it is AWESOME! I turned on Battlestar and would repeat what the centurions said and it sounded identical! I was playing it through a PA system so I'm sure that helped with the sound reproduction so I ordered, and just got a small amplifier and some small speakers to make it portable in the suit.... I should be getting that tested here pretty soon to find out, when played through a smaller system, how it will sound.

yes, I'm in the same boat here, only there is one company in NZ that deals with Roland and they did the dirty on me, so possibly if I ever upgrade I'll go with one off eBay, pity.

Any time I've had a speaker in front, either My Darth Vader or at at, I've had feed back.
Best thing i think would be to have the speaker at the top of the back pack to amplify the sound upwards and away from your Mic, that way you get the sound from the general area for the effect that you would want.

I put it through the smaller amplifier and it still sounds great! I have two small speakers mounted in the backpack and am trying to decide where to put the amp and the VT-4. One of them will fit in the backpack but I don't think I can get them both in there...
