Not by chance, or bad luck but I feel that Boomer was the 3rd wheel that had a flat tire. He was not part of the club per say that Glen had in mind for Starbuck, and Apollo. If given more of a active roll as a group of three I am sure he could have brought more of his character. We will never know.

Shouldn't this topic be part of the 1978 Series discussion?

Boomer was great when he got the chance to be. "Fire in Space" comes to mind, when he almost singlehandedly kept a roomful of people alive with his resourcefulness. But I think the series basically stacked the deck in favor of Apollo as the most consistently heroic, with Starbuck a close second but hampered by his vices.

Boomer. Another character who deserved more fleshing out then he got.
Col. Tigh comes in a close second.

It would have been interesting to see Tigh in his warrior days. In fact, Terry Carter was almost Boomer, wasn't he? I believe there was some sort of injury and he got recast as Tigh. Carter would have been a very different Boomer, to say the least.

Come to think of it, Apollo did have one character flaw, but that was basically written out after the pilot. It was something of a tendency to lord his rank over Starbuck and Boomer. When Apollo is looking for solium leaks, Starbuck addresses him as "Apollo" and Apollo stops and stares at him until he changes it to "Captain." And there are other instances in the pilot of Starbuck and Boomer calling him "Captain" or "sir" or using deferential language like Boomer's "Without being critical, Captain...." By the time we get past the pilot, though, Apollo treats them both as equals.

Very true about the level of respect as a office of the fleet, but like most new TV shows the characters change over the first few episodes as each actor finds their personal footing with the part they take on. Look at Star Trek TNG 1st year, and compare it to the 3rd year, and the final year.

True, and I guess it was more a matter of deciding that the difference between a Captain and Lieutenant (or a Sergeant, for that matter) wasn't really so much, compared to the division between the warriors (or bridge crew) and the command staff (basically Adama and Tigh).
