And I just noticed something about the Arcta shuttle team...

Six warriors: Apollo, Starbuck, Boomer, Haals, Voight, and Vickers.

Four criminals: Croft, Leda, Thane, and Wolfe.

Two stowaways: Boxey and Muffit.

The Dirty Dozen.

Actually one of my favorite BG episodes, whether stand-alone or 2-parter. I had read, once, years ago, that Galactica was intended to be a series of made-for-TV movies rather than a full series, a la later Perry Mason or Columbo movies, and that Gun on Ice Planet was either the 2nd or 3rd 2-parter filmed after the original Saga of a Star World. That is one reason why Dirk Benedicts hair is shorter in Gun, he got a haircut between filming of Saga and Gun.... No kidding.

Yeah, it was the second. That also explains why Cassiopeia isn’t in it... the original plan was for her to be killed off in the first movie.

I've always imagined the pulsar could be turned around to fire at the Galactica and the fleet from any angle so as soon as it entered the limits of Octa they'd be destroyed! :evillaugh:

But it’s still a fixed point on the surface of the planet. If the fleet kept to the far side as the planet rotated, the planet would always be between them and the pulsar.

Oh we could dream up a pile of loop holes to make the gun a threat. Nebula they can not go through near on far side of the planet that rotates to slow, or not at all (smaller non military ships can not survive even being near it). Or a minefield like in SOASW. Also, Fuel, too precious little to drive around a planet or a system, so deal with the gun. Or Cylons. They were on the base... totally plausible they have ships, or a worse weapon on the other side of the planet, near it, on a moon over there, etc.

Oh my, my, my... sucks to be the Galactica! ;)

British extra Ron Nyman appeared in this one with his old mate, Roy Thinnes as Croft! Now I've read that Nyman had a bad accident while on BSG which stopped him from continuing his extra work on other shows! He's not credited on the IMDB for the show but it's definitely him and does anyone know what happened to cause this accident on set?

Interesting! I don't know... but we gotta find out. Certainly a story that epic, someone knows.

Ron Nyman was also in a few episodes of The Invaders as an uncredited alien! He never spoke but did take on Roy Thinnes in a fist fight or two every now and then!

For that matter, if Ravashol didn’t know the Thetas were having children, why was he issuing worker uniforms in kids’ sizes?

The Thetas may have made their own uniforms. It was never made clear who controlled the means of production for uniforms, but Ravashol seemed to be a fairly hands-off manager when it came to the Thetas.

Maybe it was another temporary misuse of his knowledge? :IL:

Here's an explanation I found in the script for how they were "herded" into the safe passage ahead. This was an earlier part of the bridge scene that we never got to see. (I've altered the punctuation because the script used too much ellipsis for my taste.)

ADAMA [speaking of the Cylon task force]
They're still there, right behind us, and so is their base ship. We can't go back.

TIGH
When have we ever done that?

ADAMA [indicating map]
Look here. Above us is the planet Cassarion. A Cylon outpost. We cannot move in that direction. Below us, the Sellian asteroid belt, millions of fragments from the world the Cylons destroyed. We couldn't get through it.

TIGH
Our only course is clear: straight ahead. The point scouts report a safe passage.

Baltar has his three Basestars in this episode as well as the garrison on Arcta below! The other two disappear in The Young Lords but that could be them waiting back for more fuel and Centurions because they were back with Baltar when they reached Gammoray in The Living Legend, and then also the Imperious Leader's Basestar was there too but unseen in the episode only in the Mission:Galactica feature film, so Baltar had the firepower of five Basestars in that story only to lose two of them when the Pegasus wiped them out in a blaze of glory that might have also cost Cain his life and that of his crew and ship! Especially as they never returned in any other stories or the promise of a second season! :cylon:
