were what was MOST LIKELY used by Mr. Michael Santiago for the voices of the gold and silver Cylon centurions, and NOT the Sennheiser VSM-201 Vocoder as erroneously reported by Mr. Ben Liebrand!!!

Here is a copy and paste email from Peter Berkos, and myself.
The first is my email to Peter, and then below is his reply back.

Hi Peter

First of Happy New Year to you, and thank you for your time for the
interview we had earlier this year, and if you wouldn't mind a few
more questions about the Cylon voice I would love any answers back.

First off just a reminder I am not a audio engineer, expert, or even a
sound edit of any type, so some lack of correct terms might not be
used.

I have been told that when using a vocoder you must drive or have
something beyond just a voice as a input, like a keyboard or something
along that line. Do you recall the triggering input device that was
used, and what would be the difference say over a keyboard, or so
other type of instrument.

Michael Santiago confirmed he did some of the voice work for the
Cylon. He said he just spoke the lines, and did nothing else in
regards to how the voice sounded. So my thoughts seem more like the
only logical sense is that voice was recorded to be used by you at a
later time. Was this correct then? Also was this tape fed directly
into the vocoder unit, or was something else placed inline that would
alter the sound to help create the Cylon voice.

Now some people I have spoken with say that a ring tone modulator was
used to help create the voice, is there any true to this device being
used. Do you recall any other equipment that might have been used?

Again thank you for you time, and sending me the Sennheiser Vocoder
VSM 201 booklet.

Best wishes to you, and your family.

Dale

Hello Dale,

Happy New Year to you and yours!

It is true that the voice input was is used in tandem with a foreign sound
when operating the VOCODER.

The end result is a marriage of the vocal and the added noise,
(mechanical, electrical, animal, birds, etc.).

Example: Cobra hiss added to Cylon Leader's voice for an evil sound. (tried
and abandoned).

I have racked my brain trying to remember what combination was used for the
Cylon voices.

To the best of my recollection, I believe it was a low frequency electrical
hum developed at the mixing panel.

Many moons have passed since working on Galactica and memory dims.

I h ope I have been able to offer some insight.

Good Luck

Peter
