Cylon534 Helmet Build (The Trilogy!)

Post by Cylon534 » Fri Jun 28, 2013 7:23 pm

Hello all! For my 3rd Helmet, i'm gonna try for a screen accurate, "just found in a storage room at Universal after 35 years" looking Cylon Helmet! I went ahead and bought the basic kit off eBay (C.O.R.A.'s I believe) and my first questions are, where the heck do all those resin pieces go??? :ugh:

I'm mostly curious about where the "horse shoe" and "eye piece" go. Am I suppose to cut out the entire eye and horse shoe areas and use the resin pieces? Or am I suppose to simply install the resin pieces behind the vac-formed plastic for support/measurement reasons? Also, how does the grill attach on this kit? Do I just bondo it in (I use hot glue in case I need to remove it) or does the horse shoe have something to do with that as well?

I'm liking the idea of cutting out the eye and horse shoe areas so if I added the resin pieces, the helmet would have a more pieced together look with seams and not so perfect fitting parts. But I don't want to do that if i'm not suppose to. I have dremeled out most of the bulk areas and i'm almost ready to start the bondo work. That's where i'm at right now.

I don't know about two of the black parts... My kit version predates them. And I am still trying to figure out how to get my grill installed. Galacticon occurred with blue sticky tack putty holding it in...

cut the plastic and expose the resin bits. The seam lines on the real helmets are surprisingly big. I'll dig up a few shots to show it.

Perhaps this photo will help you:

Here, you can see what to do with the "horse shoe" piece, if that's your problem.

Once attached to the helmet, it will look like this (hope it's visible enough):

Great work on the helmet so far, by the way.
