Cheaper Metal Mesh Skirt

Post by azuma » Thu Feb 07, 2013 1:15 am

I was looking for some parts to update my Boba Fett costume the other day, and happen to see the metal mesh fabric in a local store.

These metal mash are not from W&D, but lower priced bootlegs. They are made of 3mm aluminum octagons, and runs 140cm(L) x 44cm(W) per large piece. It is 6 6/8" narrower than screen used ones, but I think it is good enough for smaller cylon like me(5'9"), and I will get one for my suit soon.

They currently have black and silver in stock. Gun metal one will be restocked after Chinese New Year. The price for each 140cm(L) x 44cm(W) is NT$3000 (around USD105). I don't think I will need a "long" skirt for my suit, so if anyone want to share half of it please let me know. Thank you for your time.

Best regards,
Azuma

I am also keen to purchase some! I am having a shocking time in Australia finding anything close and affordable.

I did find this, which is available in gun metal, for just $45 a piece , but it only comes in 30"x18" sheets (about the same size as the ones you found local to you, Azuma).
http://www.cutfabricinc.com/shop.asp?pg ... sh&pname2=

For my shorter height (5'7"), an 18" length may still work for my kama/"skirt", as opposed to the standard 24" length that most are using. And...it ships from New York (great for those here in the States), if you don't mind it being 6" shorter that the recommended 24"x24", unless there a way one could possibly link two sheets together...

interesting. i think they re exactly the same thing I found here. the spec and price is about the same. it would be cheaper for most you getting it directly from the shop in NY :D Good finding!

You guys are so lucky! I live half way on the other side of the world in Australia and have not found anything close yet. :(

Well mate, I just figured it would cost $50 USD (insurance not included), for USPS Priority Flat Rate mail, to send you two pieces of the metal mesh to Australia (same for Taiwan)...plus $90 USD to order two pieces (@$45 ea.) of the mesh, assuming you want extra. That would set you back $140-150 USD for two 18"x30" pieces of gun metal mesh.

I'll be placing an order in a few weeks after bills are paid and can arrange to purchase on your behalf and send your way if interested, since it doesn't look like the vendor offers international shipping (at least on the website). May be worth an email or call though to see if they do...

Jace76, I think I will get it locally as no shipping is involved for me. Thank you for your help.

RedaV, I can check the shipping to Australia, if you like. It should be a lot cheaper if ship from from Taiwan than from the States.

Best regard,
Azuma

That's true that shipping may be lower between you guys, but $105 USD (NT$3000) for a 140cm x 44cm piece is a bit pricey, compared to the $45 USD for a single piece of the same specs..
Feel free to let me know if anyone is interested in the mean time.
Thanks:))

hi Jace76,

I thought it was 30" x 18" per pack, and each pack is USD45. Following is the description from the website:

Width: 18"x 60"
Per Yard Price: $45.00
Description: 100% Metal. 18" x 30". Sold By the Pack. One Piece in One Pack

If I read it correctly, then the price for 18"x 60" should be USD90 (2 pieces of 18" x 30"), which is very close to what I can get here (140cm x 44cm is about 17" x 57"). Anyway, I think I should ask them if a pack is for 18" x 60" or 18" x 30" first.

cheers,
Azuma
