Wow.

Forums frackin' rock. This is definitely no exception. So full of awesome information, and at the same time, chock full o' trigger happy crazy. :) This is already one rediculously long and pointless thread, so I'll try to keep this short-ish.

It's unarguably clear that Dale did the right thing by not posting the photos I sent him. I think probably in hind-sight, though, Dale might agree with me that it was a mistake for him to mention them at all. Clearly, his intent was not to light this mob's torches, rather to just share his excitement and offer the future prospect of being able to share with you, images of the rifles I happen to have in my collection. Had he not mentioned that I sent him the images, we could have all just skipped right over the witch hunt and skipped effortlessly right into my posting them when I had time to take a couple better pics. I totally get the forum mob thing, and I'm not butt hurt about all this rediculousness or anything, but dudes... keep in mind that what you don't know, does not always equal the worst case scenerio.

This kind of thing will never change and I realize I'm really preaching to the choir - but since I've been accused of so many things in this thread, and been called so many names - I feel like I'm entitled to point out a few things. Just for fun, go with me on this journey. Among other colorful things, 137th Gebirg said, "I simply believe that when you feel passionate about something and you know of the existence of others who share the same passion and interest, why make the conscious decision to tell people "I have something you want", and make them bend knee and beg for a taste?" 137th, I totally agree with you - though, consider this - I didn't do that. See, I haven't said word one to any of you about the rifles, much less had I made a 'conscious decision' to force you all to beg for a taste. All I did was send Dale a couple photos of some of the rifles I got my hands on. The truth is so anti-climactic now, but I suppose, for the record... (leaning in to the court's microphone) "It was late, I was out in my garage, which is filled with all kinds of movie and TV props (not just BSG) - I remembered the rifles and that I'd promised Dale a photo of them for some time. I pulled them out, layed them out and shot two crappy photos. The rifles are all a mess, dirty, dusty, hot glue and paper remnants still on some of them from being molded, crap like that. I know Dale is crazy about posting photos - but these two particular photos were taken just for him, and so I asked him not to post it. I see now I should have asked him not to mention the photos either, but I didn't expect him to mention them... since I had asked him not to post them. I'm not faulting Dale - but it's not like I said, "Hey Dale, don't post the photos, but tell everyone about them so they'll get all mad and junk." :) Again, I'm sure he wouldn't have mentioned them if he knew it was gonna turn into this clusterfrack. See what I did there? Good times.

It's an unfortunate reality that the forum answer to almost anything the group doesn't like... is the forum witch hunt. Who doesn't love the forum witch hunt. C'mon, you all know you love this felgercarb. Flush him out! Hang him! It's like the old west, right? It started out so calm and easy here too, with 'is he a member?', and 'if he's not, we should invite him' (by the way, I am a member, though I don't come visit all that often as BSG is only one of my loves) - enter 137th Gebirg, with '...am I missing something about any of this or misunderstood what's going on? Seriously...honestly...this pisses me off.' In short, yeah - you were missing something, not a huge deal, just the truth. But, way to get that fire lit. Geez, man. Next, I'm 'like the Musee du Louvre keeping the Mona Lisa to myself?' Again, I get it, but really? I'm like the Louvre? :) Dudes... Re-enter 137th Gebirg, with a bunch more pitchforks about me being a coward and profiteering, flame wars, ego/control trips, rationalizations, negative behavior and my apparant small-minded profit-oriented mentality. I know, huh? Adrenaline rush of real power and control over people? Making them jump through hoops, pretending to be little puppet masters? Hoarding? White Lies? Brother's Uncle's Sister's roommate? It just keeps getting crazier. My favorite line, though, was "there really is no justifiable reason for such behavior other than pure self-interest." Damn, you said it, 137th Gebirg - oh, except for the smallest little detail, sir... you were wrong. There was another reason for my asking Dale not to post the photos. I know you don't know me, and I don't know you either, so I won't bother suggesting you chill out, cause you'll just get all mad and junk. But after we get to know each other, I will tell you to chill out.

Man, that's a felgercarb-ton of crazy that you guys squeezed out of "Hey Dale, do me a favor and don't post those photos."

Well, I had hoped to both take and post much better photos of the five rifles, with all their parts - and I do truly hate to bend to the mob mentality, but because this whole mess is not nearly as sinister as a few of you have invented, and you clearly care more about seeing these two lousy photos than I do about them being, at the moment, only meant for Dale. Here are the photos. I hope they are everything you imagined them to be and more. Four of the rifles are separated into their vacuform halves. One is together.

Now, if the mob is satisfied... As soon as I have time, I'll take - and post, better photos of all the rifles, including all their parts, which are not in those two photos. I could even use help identifying a few pieces. I'll give the mob this one, but from here out, how about a little less crazy, huh? Seriously, guys, that was a real train wreck you had going there.

Hey Knight Life (keeping name under wraps) I had no idea when I made this posting it was going to turn out the way it did, and had 2nd thoughts about leaving it up after what you would say a train wreck. It did seem to take a calmer side after I pulled out the squirt gun, and put out a fire or two so I left the Frankenstein Monster alone, and it seems like it hit a wall and stopped so I let it be. Thanks for sounding off about it, and very well put with out tossing gas on the fire. You rock dude, and yeah I learned a lesson, no sharing comments with out back up.

Well we can tell the originals were made of wood from the pics. Not plastic.

Right, if by wood you mean vacu-form. Unless you think someone carved 60+ rifles from wood. :)

No, by wood I meant wood. What is left of the Cylon rifle on the far right of DSC08553.JPG looks like it has exposed wood on the stock and under where the barrell should be. If it isn't wood, then oops, hard to tell from DSC08553.JPG.

General Motors made truck floors out of wood for years (like decades) - for national production mind you. If 60 or so prop guns were wooden that would not surprise me at all. If the bulk of them were plastic that wouldn't surprise me either.

My rifle is wood and plastic both and I guess the originals were also a mix.

Yeah, my DeLorean's got a lot of wood in it too - but with vacuform technology has been around for a brazillion years. Weren't the costumes themselves originally vacuform as well? I know people do them in fiberglass now, but we're talking about Universal here. There are some wood elements, bits of wood on the inside of some of them. But, I gotta tell you, the vast majority of the rifles were made from vacuform plastic and taped together with electrical tape.

I'd love to see your wooden gun, though. Is a photo posted anywhere on this site? I'll post better pictures of mine once I get a chance.

BTW, Dale - you rock.

There is an entire thread on it, log in more often silly Cylon. ;)
Check it out at the below link - Pages 1-4 are a build diary.

Once I get the correct resistors for the LEDs I'll post new pics of it after I get the LEDs in - all lit up. I just figured out I need an 18 Ohm resistor yesterday  off to Cylon shop tonight.

Knight Life you rock saving those, and many other items from the fires of hell. Now take me for a spin in your car next time, since it is looking like a flying machine. Hey if it is good enough for Tigh it is good enough for me. Now that is where you rock!!!

He was such a nice guy, too. Six or seven hours after that shot, I was at least 30 miles away and on my way home this car drove up next to me and started honking and waving. It was Tigh again! Weird. :)

Hey, all - didn't want to hijack this thread any more than I already have - just wanted to do a quick response to knightlife's post.

Knightlife, I would like to apologize for drawing conclusions without having all the facts. I thank you for coming here and setting the record straight.

However - I will state that you are unfortunately the exception, not the rule, when it comes to situations like this. I have seen countless times where information and materials were withheld for reasons that I stated in my previous posts. Judging by the responses I've seen here, many others have seen the same things and are equally frustrated by it. I'm not going to name names, but anyone who has spent any reasonable amount of time on these kinds of forums knows exactly who and what I'm talking about. Costumes, costume insignia and devices, filming miniatures of the various RTF ships, Eastern Alliance Destroyer and yes, even the Big-G herself have not been immune to those trying to make a quick mega-buck off some well-timed snapshots or opportune auction bids. These are things that I and other interested hobbyists have been attempting to research for years with great difficulty, often times to provide free contributions to the community. It's hard enough finding info the old fashioned way, just by doing the research, and hardly anybody from the original show seems to remember anything, if they're even still alive. Anyways, I've said my peace, and I am simply glad that there are still those out there willing to share with the rest of us.

Again, apologies to knightlife, and apologies to all in general for derailing an otherwise interesting thread. Wasn't my intention.

Be well... :salute:

P.S. - Cool pics of Tigh in the DeLorean. Had an '81 myself for a few years and it was the worst mistake I ever made. Never again...
I may appear unoccupied to you, but at the molecular level, I'm really quite busy.
