Plus the added bonus of lining the inside of the mowhawk with velcro is you can use the area to velcro on spare 9v batteries for CPU fans, etc.

update.
I hate this stage loads and loads of sanding. during this process the bridge across the nose also cracked (because of the flex in the styrene) and I had to re-glue strengthen it apply more filler and start this part of the process again.

method

1. sanded the applied body filler

2. applied a coat of primer to the sanded filler to see what areas needed addition work

3 re sanded the area and applied a small amount of model putty.

I would say this stage is one of the most important. preparation is key if you want a seam free super smooth cylon. I won't rush this stage (as much as I hate it)and will take as I as it takes until I am happy to continue to the next.

Update

still working on my lid. and this is the part I hate the most.
method.

1. using 800 grit wet and dry and primer

2. a question of sanding and priming. then reapply primer and re-sand.

3 I want to get a really smooth finish on this, so it's a question of keep going back adding more primer and re sanding until I'm 100% happy.

With clear water running over areas in question look at the surface to see if the finish looks like your going to be happy with the results. The smooth as ice flow of water will show any defects in the surface, or the perfection.

Update
Just another update from today's work.
flatted the primmer using some 800 grit wet and dry. added a new cost of primmer. the seam is looking really good now as is the repair to the bridge of the nose. (you cant see it.) also started to prep the interior eye section.

things are looking good even if i say so myself.

Are you going to want this chromed in the some what near future? I am sending a few items in about 8 week (guess) and the more that goes in at once the cheaper each item becomes.

going to be painting this bad boy Dale, but thanks ..

ok my lid build. i got a bit impatient today and decided to give it a quick blast with some chrome paint just to see what's it coming along like. you can really see any imperfections as this point. so far so good i say.. i took a few shots of the seams too. like i said i sprayed straight onto the primer and never gave it the proper undercoat of gloss black. need a little more work in a few places once its dried, then another primer rub down to flatten then a proper few coats of gloss black.

note it wasn't particularly sunny day when i took the photos.

Looks good so far. If your going to keep that finish detail the panels out in gun metal, and then clear coat it to help keep the paint on in case impact damage (aka drop)

Considering you said it wasn't really sunny outside and you didn't use a gloss black undercoat, that chrome paint has a nice luster. What kind is it?
