The fact that the pet lizard appeared just once - in the Saga of Star World - I think can be easily explained with the events in the show...
-First IL had a pet, and they got blown up
-Second IL didn't want a pet, or have the option to get one untill his basestar could find a pet store

Yes, this could be a reasonable explanation...

UPDATE: The sculpture of the mask is almost finished now!
Check out the pictures...
Sorry for the lesser quality, but I had to make them with the camera of my mobile phone...

Ehm, can't you host those pics some other way? I really hate hosts like RS, who make you click and wait.
Photobucket will work fine for instance.
Curious to see the results though, but yes, lazy as well...

Red-Eye, I could post images to my web space if you wanted... these and future ones of your progress.
OH... and did you all realize that the IL made another appearance in the original series? He is in the Living Legend part two. Seen walking from the side, and then again from the typical over the shoulder view.
Here are the images:

Evil Lizard bot walking in. He moves quick!

Sitting around with his homies. (There you are front and center GoldCylon - Mr. V.I.P.)

I noticed this that you'll find interesting, Red-Eye... the head dress seems to be a very open one. I outlined the actual edge of the head. The head dress is like a big hood.

All right, I'll figure out another way to post my pictures...
@ Cylon-Knight: Yes, I realized the headpiece of the Leader before... it will be included with my costume, too...
The whole headpiece is enormous... it was made of resin with some kind of "necklace" which hangs from the front and the back in order to hold it on the shoulders of the actor. It can clearly be seen in the second of your screen caps...
Sadly, this scene in "Legend" where the only opportunity for the Leader to move around instead sitting on his throne atop the huge pedestal aboard his basestar...
Anyway, when there will be ever a continuation of the original series, I got only one demand: Show more of the Imperious Leader!!!

When everything goes well, I'll visit my pal who makes the mask next sunday.
He promised that the sculpture and possibly the cast will be ready then.
So the next steps to do will be the painting, the installment of the glowing eyes and the construction of the headpiece...
More pics will follow as soon I got them...

Man these rock. Really worth the wait for this. I can't wait to see how the cast comes out and the detailing out and then the putting it all together goes.

WOW - totally awesome skill.
Were the spikes on the back known to be on the original? I can't remember ever seeing the head (without the head-dress).

Thank you for these kind words! I really appreciate it.
Regarding the spikes at the neck: It's a very good question whether the original mask had these spikes on the back or not.
Sadly, I don't have pictures of the original mask without the headpiece. But maybe some of you here can help me with that?
All we had as orientation was this picture of the prototype facemask, which is the only pic that shows the mask without the headpiece, as far as I know...

Maybe the spikes are something that will have to come from other sources to be "proven" - like a comic book, etc. Since the TV show didn't explore the IL further. Even without "proof" they are a great idea, love them.
Hope the project continues along so well. Keep us posted with MANY photos

I think the spikes are a nice idea, too.
With them it's still nicely detailed, once the headpiece is removed...
