Re: Budget Cylon Build
awww now I'm blushing
I didn't really have that many drawn out plans to be honest, I used
http://www.bazookajo.me.uk/PaperModels/Cylon/Cylon.htm
I printed them out and used them for general shape but had to adjust them a lot for butt jointed plastic rather than flap and fold card but fair do's to the guy these are great templates.
A big disadvantage was that my card is all A5 size so I had to laminate a lot to get larger sizes.
I lined the joints with Milliput epoxy putty to give a bit of strength.
The sword was a Poundland water gun that I added a hilt to, the skirt and arm tubing are made from a sheet of 'grippy' anti slip materiel.
I plan to wear it this weekend at a local con, and also my 2012 Judge Dredd costume.
I hope it creates the right impact

That's the same pattern I am going to use for my Real-Life Cylon Robot project! Only I hope it can be made small enough (or big enough) to fit the NXT Mindstorms Alpha Rex head.

Re: Budget Cylon Build
Tried out my Cylon costume at a convention for the first time today and it was surprisingly easy to wear and survived a rough day of usage. I did think the nature of the build would mean something would break but it all held together well. Sadly the voice didn't work too well as the speakers were too quiet for a busy con so I think I'll have to upgrade them to something louder. The warbling worked brilliantly.

All the hours of work were worth it as it seems everyone wants a picture with a Cylon Centurian and they seem as popular as ever.

Looks like you had some fun, and glad the suit was easier than expected. The sound issues with me in the past wasn't it couldn't be heard but the eye scanner sound drove me a bit nuts after 30 minutes.

Kitt is owned by my friend David and is an amazing car. I love the way that pic came out
Doing the con has inspired me to improve the suit in the year ahead.

WOW!
Your suit looks great, and the con photos are awesome.
Of course I (Cylon-Knight) have saved your Centurion/K.I.T.T. pic I'll have my own very soon too...

Re: Budget Cylon Build
I think I will start here with a 1/3 scale project with working eye scanner. I have already got an idea on how to fit 32 Cree LEDs across 25.4 mm . There's room for 200 LEDs, but I don't have motivation to come up with a driver for that many.
