I have been reviewing classic BSG. I found several different IL series cylons. In the "young lords There are 3 different ones it appears.
I think the one I like is specter with the gray face and purple rope lights in the dome. At spot 20:26.

We have basically 2 kinds of props that we use for our models, we use to use wooden props back in the day but now we have basic props that we use those are called master airscrew and they are made of a nylon composite and are black ....The others that we use are more high performance and come from a company called APC......Although the APC's are more desirable....they come in one color Light Grey!.......

So the solution to a grey prop is to dye it black when you want more of a scale prop!

Depending on the time in the dye pot depends on the color that you get. .......A short time in the pot will produce a purple shade...even though it's a black dye......the longer in the pot the darker or blacker the prop gets

Problems........Leave it in to long or make it to hot and the plastic/Nylon will disform.

I read the thread you linked to and they were talking about Tygon...we use tygon for petrolium gas engines I dont know how well it will dye.

I have used alot of clear vinyl tubing with lights (Rope Lights) for display cases but never had to dye them because you can buy them (LED or Bulbs) in the colored tubes.

Home Depot Rope lights

Unfortunatly I don't see any purple sets but maybe a good google search and you could find some ready made ones??

Just a thought.

I love Spector because he could think outside the box to wing it unlike anything I saw from Lucifer unless you count the attack he launched on Kobol.

I hate to disagree with you, but I'm not so sure about the gray face theory. Maybe the lighting plays tricks on you in this particular shot...

I think all of the IL-Series Cylon heads (three were made for the show) had identical colors. Just my 2 cents.

What color was the IL series heads? On the show they look different colors. Grey is to me a medium color as a starting point.

Looking at specter, if his robes are red and silver, his face looks browish and not the redish/pink from lucifer.

I have drip dyed vinyl tubing before, all I did was to pour rit dye into the tube, slosh it around, and drain the rest out, let dry a couple days, and poof you have color. only tried it on black, no lights.

on specter, it looks like purple tubing with white lights that give a twinkle effect.
any thoughts on this?

To me the Sector color looks like the gun metal that is used in the 1/4 panel section on the centurions helmet, while the Lucifer looks like a dark purplish in color. Low lights play trick on us all the time when trying to 1:1 a color.
