SS Battlestar Australis

Post by JAWS MODELS » Fri Jul 30, 2010 8:14 pm

Ok crew this is my Ss battlestar I am building  Big project & rather expensive also with all the model kits needed to detail it. I have a buddy building one at the same time & we're doing pretty much a group build thing. Fun & stressful at the same time. we want our battlestars to be as accurate as possible. We started with the engine section & will work forward. Figure the engine section to be the hardest so decided to start there. Big thanks to those that have built this baby before us & have made it possible for buggers like myself to have a crack at it. Hope you like whats been built so far.

Oh man that is so cool, and it looks like your taking the approach of build it section at a time, over build in the entire frame, and the fill in the parts. Very cool photos, and a awesome build. Thanks for sharing your work.

MAN-O-MAN! Dang it... omes72, why can't I live near cool people like you and your buddy??? MY local friends are useless to me :P (when it comes to BSG hobby stuff!). lol

Darn, I'd love to build a battlestar of my own along with you two. So fun! Are one of you going to brand yours Galactica and the other Pegasus? Or both goinig for Galactica?

Be sure post as MUCH as you can on the build - we Cylons need detailed info on Battlestars so we can blowed them up *oops... err* - we enjoy seeing them built.

A very promising project you've started here, omes72.

I wish you good luck with the Big G!

And post as much photos as you can as soon as there are any updates available.

Thanks everyone. Glad you like the project. We need more Battlestars to get some pay back for destroying the fleet  Got the last of the Roco tank hulls & B52 bomb sites on the Starboardside upper slope. Just a few more parts to go on the side walls & I will start detailing the top, bottom & finish the engines in the backplate. I should have a good update in a few days. :salute:

So how do you know what kits are needed? I know it takes many! Is there a list online somewhere and blueprints for the body? I've looked around but couldn't find it.

The best blue prints you could get & really the only set are from Charles Adams of Star Arts. He used to have 'Starshipbuilder.com' Custom replicas has a kit they produced though is rather expensive at $14000. It sound alot but its actually pretty good value once you break it down. The kits need for this build are around & over the $10000 mark if castings aren't used. Some kets are used upteen times & may only supply 1 or 2 parts per kit. I have a site you can join & have the parts maps & kits lists in the reference sections. Come join& have a look. You have to be a member to view the contenet but its instanious sign up. Unfortunately in the modeling scene there are some undesirables & we have it like that to protect the members & the site. You don't have to be amodeler to enjoy or give feedback. All are welcome. You can contact Charles Adams through my site to buy plans for a build if your want. I also have a props section if anyone has their equipment they would like to share. Its a bit empty at the moment & could do with some input

Here you can see where Ive put the tank hulls on the upper trench walls. Now the gaps are filling in she's starting to look the part. Long way to go yet but progress is steady.

SO COOL MAN! Thanks for the update. Can't wait for more. Excellent work.

Say, what "color" is a battlestar? Would you just call it gray - or is it gunmetal, eggshell etc. Is the correct color documented anywhere?
