Cylon Soldier - Part 2 - 8 Yarhen later

Post by jwpattr » Sat Sep 21, 2019 12:50 am

It's been 8 years since I started this project. I was planning on creating my cylon costume out of vacuum formed plastic. Unfortunately, the former I built was not large enough to pull plastic pieces big enough to make the full costume. So this project ended up sitting on the side with the rest of my unfinished projects :( Then one day I saw a YouTube video on someone that created a Star Wars helmet out of EVA foam :evillaugh: I finally found a way to make this project.

Looking NICE!
Can't wait to see more.
The Mowhawk shape on your build is very cool.

So cool!
What plans do you have for the colored bars on the back pack? Lights? Blinking, steady on, etc.?

right now the bars are just clear plastic with clear colored backing but I might hook them up to the battery of the helmet and put solid lights behind them. Its been a lot of work so far I am currently working on the forearm shields and arm mechanisms. I am also attempting to make an animated gif on the Larson scanner to post here.

I guess I should have said this, the above "Larson Scanner" is done with an Arduino UNO and a simple sketch for it that another guy wrote several years ago (being a professional software engineer) I modified the sketch so that it is able to run 10 led pairs for a total of 20 LEDS. I also adjusted the time it takes to go from end to end, I think it looks right now for speed. The whole thing runs off of a portable cell phone battery pack that recharges off of a USB port in less than an hour. As such, its capable to run for several hours and you can quickly and simply change out the battery pack. (even a 9v transistor battery works but you don't get much run time) All you need is a piece of bread board and a resistor for the leds all the grounds are tied back to a single one of the uno's ground pins and each LED pair is lit by a single copper wire back to one of the UNO's outputs. if your can solder even half way decent you can make this your self for < $50 I need to perfect a wax diffuser for it and I should have started with REALLY bright LED's instead of the old square ones I had left over from the 1980's :loveit:

Such a cool scanner! Awesome how you got it going.
I've got an Arduino UNO starter kit... going to try and get my feet wet with it. eeeek  lol
