Viper Mk1 build

Post by johno » Wed Apr 29, 2020 5:32 pm

hi all

my plan is :) ... im diein to make a viper mk1 to add to my collection, allways liked bsg and love the mark1
now ive had a look round the net to see whats out there and all the vipers ive found are not that good.
im looking to build a 700mm long viper or 1:20 scale so id like it to have as much detail as possible.

i will be 3d printing all of the viper, and have 2 options..... (1) design the viper from the ground up useing solidworks or fusion as thats what i work with or (2) if anyone be so kind out there that has a model i can use/edit or add to.

ive been collecting reference pictures from the net and im hoping it look something like the one in the pic at the end :)

any help anyone be so kind as to add or share is much appreciated.

You may have found it all ready, but if not, be sure to visit all the areas of our Viper Gallery for help on the details:

Building it from the ground up sounds interesting. Then you could scale it up even larger if you wanted to one day...

thanks for the reply pal, yes i did find the viper gallery :) some amazing work in there and very helpfull.
ive got to admit im no pro on the BSG just no i love the movie and the ships in it... but im a bit confused with 3 pics i have that i was going to use as reference pictures.

just messing around in fusion and useing the pics i noticed there different... is one more movie accurate than the other do you know.

the nose shape is different on them all and the shut-lines on the nose... and the top an bottom pics have details in different places lol like near the guns for the top pic and the detail on the bottom is near the tip of thhe nose.

I'd say you're best off with the center image (one the guy is holding).
That seems to have the best balance of details and nose shape (the nose tip should be a very long angle, not a quick up and down deal).
However the center one has the gray oval inset area but is missing the do-dads - next to where the lasers go... that are also missing! The photo must have been a nearly done photo of the ship... those last bit deals yet to add.

That's comparing the three to this photo of the original filming ship.

Can't wait to see what you cook up. Be sure to include the *PEW PEW* :nah:
