Finished.

Post by MackUK » Sun May 05, 2019 4:25 pm

So after a few months of getting things right, and with help from C.O.R.A with a decent back pack and ribs, and a little mod to the boots, all Ng with the right chainmail rear skirt I think I'm finally there.
Another cylon In the UK fully fitted out with techno helmet and wireless VT3 voice emulator.

Hey Rusty.

It was a rush job admittedly as I needed it ready for an event this weekend.

There’s a company in Sunbury that does it its VMC ltd and although they couldn’t do it time , I got a chrome car vinyl stretch wrap cover and kinda did it myself. I will take it to VMC when I can as obviously this will be a far superior finish.

I got the back pack sent over from the US by contacting c.O.R.A .

He was most helpful. He’s got a shock coming as I’m also requesting full new moulds for a gold cylon as well :p

Mea culpa.... the plate at the front of the toilet seat I’ve just realised is upside down .

Ps are you heading to comicon in London at he end if the month or the one in June?

Mack

:loveit: nice job with the vynyl wrap on your back pack.
I'm looking to do that as well.
Did you heat it up to have it stretch over the corners of your pack, and did you need two people, lowly human slaves to help shape it over for you.
Nice job there.
If anybody can, Soda Can Cylon can. :cylon:

:byyourcommand: As you will see in the next couple of photos, in the end I actually did this in sections. The chrome wrap is just too thick to be able to get a good sharp "round the corner" look. As you can see on the picture looking In the backpack above, at the bottom you'll see some wrinkles in the film.
The corners were just too tight.

So, to make the film thinner, it's actually 3 layers...
1st being the sticky cover
2nd being the actual film itself
3rd being a clear protective film... Take this OFF BEFORE you start heating and wrapping.

From 2-3 feet away and further, you don't notice the Chrome TAPE which I also used to cover/join each section together.

As I said this was only a temporary job, but the overall results managed to get me through an event I wore it for and no one commented. I'm also using it for Londons Comicon next weekend, then I will finally take it to be chromed. If anyone would have commented, I would have just mentioned that the original creator (Andrew Probert) used what ever he could to repair the parts...

www.DarthMojo/Wordpress.com/2008/09/17/ ... n-history/

He states that as pieces were damaged during filming, sections were replaced from other damaged parts that were otherwise too knackered to use, thus using what ever method he could to blend in. You never notice on the actual footage the joins.

On the back of the back pack, it's just too bumpy where the black pipes are, so I took the pipes off, and just sprayed it using a good chrome spray. you'll notice a bit of a sheen difference between the film and the spray, but as long as you cut the film as neat as possible on the edge where it blends in the recess, you should get away with it (I think I did to an extent)

As a final word, This costume was approved by the 501st.

Looking good, and it seems like even with the problems here and there it worked out. I had no idea the 501st let non Star Wars costumers into their club. Congrats.

I’m not sure how it is everywhere else but in the UK we have on the side of the 501st UKGarrison another group called reel icons, dedicated to all things TV and film. There are hundreds of people in it and most times we get more invites than the empire
