#19: The Super Scouts

When the fleet school ship breaks down, the Cylons lauch their first attack on the Colonials in a generation, fatally damaging the ship.

Troy and Dillon manage to get all of the school kids off the ship before it explodes. The last shuttle containing 12 pupils and piloted by our heroes is forced to land on Earth. Much culture shock humour follows and jeopardy as three of the tykes become ill due to drnking chemically impregnated spring water. As the Galacticans dodge the US Air Force, the local police and employees from the local chemical plant responsible for the contamination, Jamie Hamilton looks after the kids who have been disguised as Scouts.

A tortuous plot which has plenty of moralising and environmental business designed to educate the young audience at which this second season of BG is clearly aimed. The script is incredibly clunky, and the usual illogicalities and stupidties abound. Definitely not as much fun as the loopy 3-parter that preceeded this, but the cast is competant (Mike Kellin is great in a semi-serious guest star part as the guy in charge of the chemical plant). It's just so feeble though ... but in the end, I did find myself cracking a smile and chuckling in the right places.

If the Cylons haven't attacked in a generation then where have they been and why does Adama say that their enemy keeps pushing them on? If their last attack was at the time of Starbuck's disappearance then what has the Galactica been in all that time as well? New enemies or new disasters?
