Did you ever meet a fan of Galactica 1980 back in 1980?

Re: Did you ever meet a fan of Galactica 1980 back in 1980?
I rewatched all of BG and G80 on BD about a year ago when I got the German BD set and the best of G80 for me was the opening 3-parter. I found The Return of Starbuck to be massively disapointing and cheap looking; even for G80. It took itself too seriously which by that point in the proceedings was folly. Galactica Discovers Earth was insane, mad, silly....but very enjoyable. The other one that sorta stood out was The Night the Cylons Landed; again, for all the wrong reasons.

'return of starbuck' was the best episode of G80 and better than half of the original series episodes

It's ok. Really cheap and tacky with the female character turning up having just crashed looking like she's stepped out of a nightclub, the Cylon voice is tinny and nowhere near as effective and the wreckage looks like they cobbled it up in five minutes from crates.
Benedict is his usual dependable aelf, but the script just rips off Robinson Crusoe to little effect. When I first saw the episode back in 1980 I liked it and would have agreed with you, but on the rewatch in HD it didn't cut it for me. Too self-serious and shoehorning a character into somebody else's show.
The roster of G80 episodes is an ignominious bunch and I like the ones I mention above because they're guilty pleasures and tons of fun in their wrong-headed insanity: Galactica Discovers Earth and The Night the Cylons Landed.
The Return of Starbuck can't hold a candle (in my humble view) to the very best of the old show: Saga of a Star World, War of the Gods etc.

No, I'd agree about that. But I prefer it over Fire in Space, Greetings from Earth, Take the Celestra, The Gun on Ice Planet Zero, The Magnificent Warriors, and probably a few others.Croft2014 wrote:

on a slightly different note, the night the cylons landed had some real cool scenes. I loved the new AB craft, I loved the cylon ship crash with the human cylon and centuri trapped inside. The final shoot out could have been better (the cylons should have won).

The Return of Starbuck is consistently found in the top 5 episodes of the 78 and 80 series. I agree.
