classic viper model

Post by rustycylon » Sat Nov 22, 2014 2:47 pm

At the NEC in Birmingham and there was a viper model all glued back together which apparently was used pre production and blown up to see how the effect would work on screen. I will post up a photo of it after. Does this sound possible?

The effects team at Uni never blew up models. They used effects on top of the film footage, but that is interesting that the have a Viper in a Trek project. Just have been debris field items.

yes they said it was a tester they did to see if the effect would work. They had loads of original stuff on display inc that startrek board, a dalek from the 1980's and a cyberman head

Have you got a photo of the Cyberman helmet as well?

A pity... the Cybermen of the 1980's are my favorite design.

Hope they'll return in the current show soon, but I bet all we get are those lame parallel universe wannabes again.

The viper was one of the models built for the pilot/movie by what was essentially ILM, before Apogee and Hartland, right after Star Wars. You can see guys like Lorne Peterson working on stuff like the viper and raider in the workshop pics from that time.

If this was used as an effects test for a Star Trek film, my guess would be that ILM had a mold for the viper sitting around, poured a viper out of resin and/or foam and blew it up.

Now we know the story behind it.

Thanks for clearing things up!
