Hand-Schaub's IL clear head sculpt and vacuform shell
OKay - I just wrote a huge post and when I went to retrieve my pictures I somehow lost all of my post!
So now I dont feel like writing all of it again. In short...
I sculpted an IL head from water based clay on a head cast of me
I made a crap mold using cheap rubber and plaster
Vac tool is made of Ultracal
PETG is the plastic
Pieces fit okay together but the tool needs a bit of work
The last picture is of it taped up because dumb me used super glue to mend the two halves together (it worked but it is a fogged mess)
yeah - the first post was much better! Here are the pictures...

That really came out great even with the long story to tell us what you did gone. Are you going to be offering up kits, or finished heads? Can't wait to see what you have brewed up to show later on.

Terrific work! And sorry for the writing, too.
Count me in for a completed head with working electronics, if you plan to make them available.

Actually yes... I will paint two up in the near future (like this weekend or during the next week). and I got some more PETG (clear plastic) so I will attempt to make 'clean' pulls. I'm using the two protoypes to fuss around with. I dont really know what to do about the eyes right now though...
I'll add a picture soon in its current state.

If you want to use super glue on clear plastic you need a special formulated cyanocrylite called PLASTI ZAP made by Pacer. Fogged a few airplane canopies in my time...lolHand-Schaub wrote: The last picture is of it taped up because dumb me used super glue to mend the two halves together (it worked but it is a fogged mess)
Full strength super glue puts off a caustic vapor when it kicks and fogs the plastic, but the special formula for plastic works great.
Also Formula 560 Canopy glue works great for clear plastic also made by ZAP/ Pacer . This is more like standard elmers (White Glue) with a over night drying time.......Dries clear...
Neither one of these glues will fog.
And other than that ........It looks great! Awsome work!

Re: Hand-Schaub's IL clear head sculpt and vacuform shell
Quick update...
Got some together (these are not very good pulls but I was just practicing). I sprayed some 'tint' on the lips from behind (yes they are purplish transluscent). and sprayed the front with maroon spray paint. I think they need to be painted in black prior to the color so light doesn't shine through. Anyways... it's getting somewhere...

Re: Hand-Schaub's IL clear head sculpt and vacuform shell
the lighting in the top pictures really suck. In the next batch I had a little better luck with vacu-forming. There are still webs but the overall quality is better. For painting I will approach it different. I will base coat with black, then chrome/silver and finally the maroon. It should give it that pearlescent look and minimize light shinning through.
I think these shells are much better in real life - they do not photo well. It really needs the eyes and rope light in the head to bring it to life. It's amazing what an absent element can do to the overall effect.
