Tejanovader's BASESTAR
This is the beginning of my Basestar Kit. For me, texture is the most important thing with this kit, since it has only...what?...four major pieces? I liked RAZOR's concept of the craft, so that's what I will go with here. To me, it looked far more sinister than the original series' depiction.
The underlay is a combination of gray primer from WAL MART, then Flat Light aircraft gray mixed in with patches of more gray primer, then a light misting of flat black. In spots that are definitely meant to represent vents of some kind, a single direct hit of flat black were added.
Then, light to moderate sanding with fine and ultra fine sand papers. I am planning to light the kit as informed by the re-imagined series (RAZOR). No fiber optics; but small LED's. By my count, there would be twenty LED's to represent the outer hull illumination lights. I am still taking inventory on what else was there.
Another thing that just thrilled me was this: In RAZOR, the few frames that showed this detail had the landing planks with flashing beacon lights. I really liked it. For the 20 landing planks, I am planning on cutting the existing kit ones off, molding and casting them in CLEAR, insterting a single large led on a 555/556 timer for a slow blinking effect.
Because I spent the 30 or so bucks to get this kit, I am adding a purely self indulgent detail with the top. I will have lighting coming out of the top disc piece.

Tejanovader's BASESTAR
This is going to be an awesome build to watch. I haven't ever noticed the difference in the ships like you have mentioned.

I am taking this build to an art camp in a couple of weeks. Subject: Model crafting weathering detailing and installation of lights. I should have some photos for it to display by then....

@GoldCylon - our own Tinman is getting ready to sell some of his stuff... I know he has quite a few of the nuBSG Razor type Cylon figures. PM him.

Thanks, but I am heavy on toys already. I have so many I can't find 90% because it is boxed up.

Re: Tejanovader's BASESTAR
If anyone has taken a look at my raider photos, I wanted to let you know I have also been working on the base star again. I will have pics soon, but I have nothing at the moment.
