Buck Rogers fullscale Thunder Fighter

Post by GoldCylon » Sun Feb 13, 2011 9:45 pm

I found these photos some years ago, and well frankly I forgot all about them till a email link from CORA today. The link didn't have all the photos I do, but never the less the full sized Thunder Fighter from Buck Rogers decades ago. If I recall the guy that took these photos worked for Universal, and he took these about 1-2 years after the production of Buck Rogers shut down. Now look at the massive damage done after just a doz or so months. A few decades later it would have been just a pile of lumber that no one be able to figure out what it was. I am only post a few not everything.

The ship was built mostly of plywood and a few other metal pieces, but it could hardly handle it own weight. One reason it is falling apart so quick after exposed to the elements.

On pic 10 with the boxed out area take a look carefully you can see the camera dolly wheel frame what was used back in those days over the much smaller light weight in most cases hand held cameras. Those are the same type, or style used in the Viper landing gear. By the way that is the wing. The nose gear is missing its landing gear wheel.

Did any of the full scale mock ups of the Vipers ever survive?
