DIY Rotocasting

Rotational molding, also known as rotomolding, is a molding process for creating many kinds of mostly hollow items. The info is not specific to Classic Cylon Centurions, but SURE can be helpful for them and many, many others projects. Here you'll find various threads with great info from our members for the hobby of costuming.

The-Supplies-Schematic.jpg
:cylon: I wanted to start this thread because we need a thread on DIY Rotocasting. Anyone who has experience with this method or who has built there own Machine... please share.

I personlly have no experience with Rotocasting, I Have never done Rotocasting or even seen a Rotocast machine up close.

But I have seen alot of videos and read a few articles on the process and a few on-line builds.

I know this is a great way to make parts no matter if your making :cylon: Cylons or Worrier Helments, or whatever your favotite bucket might be, This would definitely be a great way to make em!!:salute:

I know there are Cylons here on this forum that do Rotocasting { :cylon: Huttman that means you! :cylon: } LOL...and it would be very cool to have their imput on this subject. :salute:

My intrest is in the DIY machines and plans so that is what I will be searching for and when I find the good ones I'll post the link.

Please do the same when you find stuff.

I would like to build one of these someday (in the future) and I'm sure other Cylons would too! :salute:

:cylon: I have some links to articals on the subject and alot of questions, So please imput.

Try to stay on topic and I wll edit and tweek my post as we go.

Thanks, :salute:

Roto Casting is this cool way to cast parts and you do it in a machine that looks like it could open a Time warp worm hole.

I gota take my Pop somewhere right now but when I get back I will post some of the stuff I found.

:cylongold: DIY Rotocast Machines :cylongold:

:cylon: OK I am still searching on the net for information on this topic as there are alot of videos and just a few build and plan resources.

I am still looking for PDF's and books on the subject and when I find them I will post.

So to get this started, here is a Video of Huttman's New Rotocast Machine His friend and him made and it is probablly the most professional looking DIY Build of a rotocaster I have seen to date.

:cylon: Huttman's Machine is top shelf and no doubt is as close as you can get to a commercial machine without buying one.

Have a look it's Impressive.........Most Impressive

:cylon: (A few words from the designer) DIY AUTOMATIC ROTO-MOLDING MACHINE. I wanted to build a better mouse trap. Most if not all DIY rotocasters on the web are contraptions with bicycle chains, gears and belts. I don't like to work that hard. I wanted an INEXPENSIVE machine, but not an unwieldy monster that you have to crank by hand for 15-20 minutes!. Here is the answer. Runs on two electric motors. For plans goto ebay.com and search ROTOCASTER MACHINE

:cylon: Here is another video of the machine actualy casting someting!

:cylongold: DIY "Barrel Type" Rotocasting Machine :cylongold:

:cylon: If you are feeling ambitious, this one is for you. I'm not sure where this guy is because his site in in spanish. but this is a very cool machine for someone who would want a robust machine for small production. This machine is similar to the big industrial machines but does NOT have a heated chamber.

my question on the DIY Rotocasting Machine Plans on E-Bay,
is how does he keep the wire from the seconond motor from twisting and breaking after it passes through the shaft tube???

I do like the mechanical connection of the 2 frames, only needing 1 motor.
and I do like this one..
