Classic BSG Pepakura project.

Ok. So here I was sitting over at the RPF looking for the next thing im going to make with pepakura, When I got a notion in my head to build something beloved from my childhood. Something awesome. Something Chrome!! Yup you guessed it a cylon centurion helmet. SO of I went to the interwebs and with a little applied google-fu I quickly discovered that there was a limited selection available to me. and while bazookajo has some seriously awesome files out there, the method used is just not my thing. to cutt a long story short ( and to stop folks dying of old age from reading all this blurb) I downloaded a copy of blender and got busy.

Now being a NON 3d modeller I found it pretty quick to pick up and thanks to repetition easy to learn. and within a week or so I had the results listed below.

Image Image Image

Now its not 100% perfect. And im not looking for 100% perfect that would be insane and drive me around the bend. It is not currently scaled, so the size measurements might be off But I feel I have already exhausted my reference images and Im lokoing for a trained eye to point out where It might be noticeably incorrect.

Once this was complete I decided to give it a play mate so to speak. and what better to go with a Cylon Centurion than a Colonial Viper Pilot Helmet to have a trophy. And here are the resulting images

Image Image Image

Again I know its not perfect and again Im not looking for perfection in the base file. Once its been unfolded and built Then it can be made perfect. After all a little Resin and Bondo go along way. But for now Im looking for a trained eye to point out glaring issues. (yes all 3 images are from differing stages of the build so they are missing bits.) but the First one is the most upto date one.

Word on the webs is that you folks know your stuff and here would be a good place to start to get info about this project. Once finished I (if I still have my sanity) plan on putting the rest of the Cylon Centurion together but for now Im just working on the Helmets/lids.

Thank you for your patience during this Ramble and I look forward to reading any input anyone can give me.

Regards

Welcome xaosbringer - and WOW-WEE!
You are a quick study to whip up such a kick @$$ 3D model that fast. NICE WORK!!!

Feedback on a bit of the Centurion helmet that I noticed:
The sail panels on the rear are too large... they come too close to the mohawk. I just measured my helmet and there is a good inch gap from mohawk to panel. I know you are not going for 1:1 perfection, but I guess you could reduce them easy enough?

Here is a photo of what I'm trying to type out. There should be a nice fat stripe of chrome between the mohawk and panels.

Looking forward to your next update - and the Viper helm file shared *HINT* so I can print it and try to make me a colonial project!
(Hey, every Cylon needs a nice war trophy or two :erk:)

Thanks for the reply Cylon-Knight :) it was just the kind of input I was looking for.

I'll see what I can do with to alter the file. Shouldn't be to hard. Regarding Blender its alot easier to use than folks think you just have to stick with it. I just have the basics down. All I wanted to do was to take a couple of reference images and make then 3d ( its kinda all I pretty much know how to do). It'll be a little while till the file is out but rest assured it will be :) I'm in the process of re modelling the front. I stumbled across so new images showing its somewhat boxier than I have made it out to be.

Update: Cylon Centurion Lid unfolded and ready to use.

<< FILE REMOVED PENDING UPDATES >> (sorry folks)

I've left it unlocked so you can scale it to fit. IF anyone needs it for PDF then I'll have to look into how to do that, so Shout out and bare with me while I do.

Pepakura Viewer is needed to just view and print it as is.
Pepakura Designer is required for scaling.

Okies. After much Faffing about, Procrastination & Associated reality intruding here is:

<< FILE LINK REMOVED DUE TO 4SHARED BEING FLAKEY. fILE AVAILABLE ON REQUEST>>>

Something every Cylon Centurion needs.

YUP. its the unfolded ready to make Colonial Viper Pilot Helmet.

Have fun. Let me know how it goes.

It's currently roughly scaled for me at 6'2". I've purposefully left it unlocked so you can scale it for yourselves. I've tried to make it a fiddle free build BUT some parts it just cant be helped on.

There will be a Lower Deff version on the way. I just can't give a timeline for that to happen.
