Starbucks's Cylon repair tool

Post by groupleaderzeta » Sat Apr 16, 2011 9:14 pm

Hello everyone,

Next project on the bench is Starbucks's Cylon repair tool from G1980, return of starbuck.
Anyone have more pics, measurements, have a screen used?

I am pretty sure that tool came from Buck Rogers, but I doubt you will find any better detailed photos than that. I am sure you will have to custom make the case, but I am sure you can find the LED's, and like buttons out on the open market with a little research.
On an note I started the back pack a while back, but it was pushed off to the side to complete a few other things. I was looking for old PC boards to fit inside the opened door hatch area, but my local over stock electronics place went belly up, and the closest place now is about 150 miles away.

Happen to know what episode of buck rogers that the tool was seen?

I have a copy of all 37 episodes.

Sorry I don't recall the episode, and it is just a guess since in Galactica 1980 they were really cutting corners, and reusing the Buck props. Also taking note of the bright colors of the prop that was popular in Buck episodes even in the costumes. It also might have just been a back ground prop then had more air time with Starbuck than Buck. I have a few props that came from 1980 that were hand me downs from Buck.

I wish I could help with a few reference photos or dimensions...

Well, I could if this prop was part of a Profiles auction before, but it wasn't (for now)...

There is enough items there to take a guess on what size it should be.

I did a card-stock size prototype.
Using the backpack and Starbucks's hand as reference, this is what I came up with.

The tool in pic is 4" tall x 2.5" wide X 1" thick(box), the probe is 3" long.
I did a pic next to a soda can for reference.

I know the probe is too small in diameter, and the light dots are small.
opinions, comments?

Looks nice so far. Can't wait to see it fully operational!

So here's the new order from the Imperious Leader: All damaged Centurions report to groupleaderzeta immediately!

Looks great. If you are going to make it into a working prop I'll take one since I am making the back pack that goes to that tool.

Looking good on this too, hopefully those leds will be bright like the screen use?

Nice work as usual!

By the way: I've found the "Buck Rogers" episode were the repair tool was reused.

It was worn by Hawk at the beginning of "The Guardians" (Season 2, Episode 5):
