G & M "style" battery belt HELP

Post by FLIGHTLDR SERPENTINE » Sat Sep 19, 2015 1:35 pm

Hello my fellow Cylons,
As I am building my own centurion, I have been looking and looking for an original G and M belt to convert to no avail. And, upon realization that I am a big boy and the original would likely be "tight" on me anyway, I've officially decided to make it for myself; but to resemble the original as much as possible (at least what shows beyond the armor plates). I generally know what it looks like and have poured through all (I think?) of the images here for reference, but I need to know dimensions.

How wide is the belt itself? How thick is the leather? What are the dimensions of the control box with the input jacks? ...and so forth.

And finally, I'd really appreciate some fresh large photos of an original belt. Especially any extreme closeup shots of the control box, preferably from different angles. One or two shots of the entire belt laid out straight (front and back) with a yard stick or measuring tape would also be extremely helpful.

Thank you! :cylongold:

I've got a not-so-accurate 6 cell G & M battery belt but if it's of any help to you I could take a few photos of it as well.

I know that Jenne (also a member here) owns a screen-accurate 7 cell belt so he might be able to take some photos too.

Thank you. I'm not sure how close the 6 cell is? I would be interested to see, but it's probably not worth going to the trouble to take a bunch unless at least the control box is the same.

These are really great pictures! :cylongold: Thank you so much!

Being as you offered a few more, would it be possible to get a big, direct top view of the plug-in box without measuring tape? A closeup of the little white switch-thing on the side, and if you're not too tired of it yet, a shot of the plug box INSIDE of the leather wrap-thing?

I'm already greatful, but these extras would be fantastic!

You are welcome, if you need more, let me know.
I removed all the batteries electronics etc at the inside of the belt, because all the parts were very heavy.

The plugs are XLR chassies, you cand find them very easy.

Ok, so now I have a couple questions. Is the "wrap" leather or vinyl? I see woven mesh inner-lining there similar to backing seen on vinyl.

And also, what is the plug box made of inside the wrap? Looks like maybe plastic or fiberglass? Metal? Bakelite?

I think the what I thought was leather skin is a Vac formed like infused heavy material plastic. I saw the material at Skull Beast house. I am sure what it is but it worked. He made 2 or 3 belts before he canned the project.
