Re: EXPOSED! Flightleader Serpentine's Original Eye Scanner
So here are a few shots of my helmet with the newly added eye scanner.
The scanner itself was made by Jupiter Electronics and features an adjustable speed control for the eye sweep. It's highly recommended.
Let's begin with a couple of shots of the helmet itself with the eye scanner in action...
This is a sheet of the red diffusion paper I used to cover the LED's of the scanner behind (I've used three layers of this stuff as mentioned before):
Detail photo of the visor area with the diffusion paper behind the slit.
Detail views of the inside:
Note the custom-made wooden scanner holder. I also still have to find something to hold up the battery.
Eye scanner unit removed from helmet:
LED eye scanner details:
Hope you like my version. I think it looks very close to the real deal now.

Happy to, Jenne.
Red Eye, what a cool setup. And it's completely wear-able? The diffuser works really well. And the eye comet-tails, too? Looks like you have a nice, sturdy fiberglass helmet.

Thank you!
Yeah, it's some kind of uncomfortable for the nose when worn over a long period of time but it still can be worn. Perhaps I'll use some padding later.

Just counted the LED's on my replica scanner...
Say, do you ever counted the single lamps on your original version?

To confirm what Goldcylon once stated, there are in fact 32 lamps.

Re: EXPOSED! Flightleader Serpentine's Original Eye Scanner
I have an eye sweep created by CJP in which he painstakingly recreated the 32 bulb eye scanner just like in the original. It truly is a masterpiece the way a Cylon eye was meant to be (unlike any replica LED scanner). He even timed the red eye sweep to match the warble sound effect!

Yeah, that would be a dream comes true to have such a scanner...
I think he stopped making them if I'm not mistaken.

Red Eye, I really like the finish on your helmet. It really looks like metal, not just like a toy. Did you do anything unusual to get it that way or is it just the lighting making it look that way?

Thank you!
The paint we used for finishing up my armor is called "Starchrome III".

It was fracking expensive but worth every cubit IMHO.

Re: EXPOSED! Flightleader Serpentine's Original Eye Scanner
Excellent!!
I remember asking krop if they could include an led scanner, he said yes but didn't seem interested
in my idea to use a red clear plastic with some diffusion to make it look more authentic. Said that would
be up to me. haha.
That looks WAY better than naked led sweeps most of the helmet owners have.

Glad you like it!
And the modifications are fairly easy to do (even for me).

I like how you fitted the board into the eye slot section with plywood.
Do you have video you can post of the scanner working?
Yes the originals have 32 bulbs.

I could do a short video of the scanner in action, no problem.
