CYLON VOICES (How were they originally done?)

Post by chrisd » Mon May 01, 2006 2:58 am

Hello Cylon fans! Some of you know me from selling various Cylon parts on Ebay as I've thrown the "Voice CD" in as a bonus. It is one hour long and contains vocoder sounds done by me personally. The effect of this cd is that you boost the volume (preferably on an mp3 player with an amplified speaker) so that it appears you are talking as a real Cylon and boy does it draw attention!!
What turned me on about the Cylons as a little kid watching the show when it originally aired was the voices. How come nobody seems to be interested in how the voices were done?? I mean to me that is what REALLY makes the Cylon a Cylon.
Well, just to let you all know by coincidence here is the machine that was used to make their voices if you go to ******************UPDATE**THIS IS AN ERROR** (Ebay item # 7410468226. The thing about this ancient dinosaur is when you turn the power on and use it's only internal tone generator, the sound of the red eye starts sweeping from left to right, bet you didn't know that!)************** I'm still looking into taking out a loan for this baby!!!
PLEASE STANDBY FOR NEW UPDATED INFORMATION ON HOW THE CYLON VOICES WERE ORIGINALLY DONE (COMING SOON)*****

The only vocoder we know of is from Hyperdyne Labs.

I will have to say the Chris is the only one I have met that has any insight on the Cylon voice, and it is very detailed research that he has done for everyone, and making the CD was a great idea.

The hyperdyne unit is a eye scanner with IC voice play back only. The vocoder is the unit that makes the converted sound effect of the Cylon voice.

Chris has done some great research on the Vocoder. I bet this is the same exact model used to make the Cylon voice.
I always picture this as Chris when making the CD he has with original Cylon voice clips :-)

Don't get me wrong, Hyperdyne labs scanners and vocoders are the genious work of Mr Shima. But you are comparing apples and oranges.
Sure you can spend roughly a few hundred dollars on a vocoder but if you are "Crazy" like me I am contemplating on one day spending the $7,000.00 on the EXACT machine used in the original voices!!!!!

Hey Chris that would be great if you had that. I have the Cylon, you have the sound. It could be used combined to go a long ways.

Chris I watched the eBay listing, and it went unsold. Have you talked with the seller since the closing of the bidding?

That would great if you strike up a deal, and bring the Cylon voice back home to a pro like yourself.
Good luck.

It would be so cool to have the original voice, and a screen used Cylon with the new film footage. The guys that do the fan films would eat it up.

If I do get this unit I think it would be so funny to do parodies with certain clips using the cylon voice!
