You know... I'll be doing a little bronze work for a friend in the next few weeks. I can easily add a mouth grill to the batch. But bronze DOES shrink slightly and the studio ones were a pot metal (all kinds of metals mixed) I think. I would need to make a rubber mold still which would cost a few bucks. Metal nowadays cost somehting like $20 a lb to raw cast... this includes the investment process, sandblast and cutting.

I can see a bronze cast mouth grill (based off of a studio grill) be around $50 a piece. If that doesn't scare anybody then I can go ahead with this...

Other option would be to ask if there is an alluminun pour. In that case a NEW mouth grill would have to made, molded and cast because alluminum shrinks a lot more than bronze and a larger master would accomodate for that.

I have never had any experience molding and casting with metal. Having said that, I will be attempting to cast a part for my Delorean Time Machine soon. If that is successful, I may attempt the Cylon Mouth Grill. The Delorean part is a lot more complex to muld so I am thinking the mouth grill should be easy.

regards

Brad

What are you going to cast. I did casting back in the 70's back in high school.

Ran out of rubber :) It took more than i thought so i had to buy another 1kg :). It also takes 24 hours to cure. The base is done, will pull it out tonite and prep for the other half of the mold to be poured :)
