Re: Cylon Undersuit
I know these things are hard to come by, and my friend is already leaping for joy and he hasn't even gotten it yet. I just wish they weren't so horrible to sew or I'd offer to make them for anyone interested. However, I hate piping, I hate spandex/lyra, and when you combine the two... I'd have to charge a LOT to sew another one. More than it would be worth.

I think the under suit is definitely the hardest thing to find and finding a good one is even harder. I

WOW! Consider me impressed!
Definitely worth all the hard work.
If you ever decide making one again, please contact me!
I've gone through many problems getting my own suit done, as you might have known...
So please consider it as a SERIOUS (if not desperate) request!

Two more questions: Where did you get your fabric from? Looks dead-on... was it custom dyed or something?
And would you mind showing a few more detailed pictures of your suit?

Would it be easier if you were making more than one at a time ?
Did you make or create a pattern ?
The suit looks pretty dam close and think it worth about the $1000 mark easy.
I had similar thoughts about making multiples. Since making a whole suit is so daunting I thought to farm out work for various parts. FOr example for one person to do yards and yards of ribbing while another tailor works on the vinyl patches. Finally a person who knows where things are can put it all together and size it to an individual. I realize there are many factors to doing it this way but speaking from experience Lt. Rhea, do you think a format like this might work?

Amazing job you did there, Rachel. WOW! You even found what appears to be gunmetal vinyl, and that's really rare, from what I've seen.

Re: Cylon Undersuit
lol you guys! Thank you for your kind comments about my sewing. But, seriously, I hated sewing the thing so much, I'd have to charge $1,000 just to sew another one with you providing the fabric, zippers, etc or at the least providing the money for it. From a costumers perspective, that wouldn't be worth it...but I'm not desperate for a good Cylon undersuit, so maybe you all think it would be...?
As far as materials, my friend (he's not my boyfriend lol, just a friend, I've got a husband!) got the fabric and had it custom dyed. I really don't know where he got it or where he had it dyed. Sorry I can't provide that information. The vinyl for the ribbing is actually a spandex vinyl I got from Spandex House http://www.spandexhouse.com/products.ph ... e=Pleather I used some naugahide I had found on a clearance rack at a local fabric store (I doubt they'd have it anymore) for the leg and arm armor. I found the zippers at Zipper Stop http://www.zipperstop.com/index.php?pag ... &Itemid=73 One suit requires 3 zippers that are 72". They don't need to be quite that long, but that's the closest length to what is needed. The piping for the ribs was also something that my friend had picked up and I'm unsure where he got it. It is a sort of foam/plastic rigid but flexible material. If anyone is interested in getting a few fabric swatches of the scraps, just send me a PM...if you send me a SASE I'll send you some swatches. (Until I run out of scraps!)
I used a mock-up/prototype that my friend had that someone else had made (it was close, but in the wrong colors and had the wrong # of ribs on the body and neck) to help me create a pattern. When I get a chance, I'll probably do a write up on the pattern and some tips on making the suit and post it to my blog. I'll be sure to share it whenever I get around to doing that.
