Cylon Raider Lighting Query

Post by Oxnard Montalvo » Sat Oct 04, 2014 7:26 pm

Have finally gotten around to getting hold of the 1/32 TOS raider from mobeius... so excited waiting for its impending arrival.... One quick question about lighting it though..... I know about the Engines and the two front "Headlights".... but I hope someone can tell me if my memory is cheating me here, but I could swear that theres a third light on the front just between and below the 'headlights' forming a shallow triangle..... am I misremembering this?

Plus in my research I have also read something about some of the filming miniatures having belly searchlights, which I've never heard before.... is anyone able to Confirm/deny this?

I only remember the two front lights. And the triangle in the front was a cap for a mounting point... I doubt there was a light toward the middle.

In the below photo link you can see the two lights. I don't see any bit that looks like them in the middle (a third light). But, I think there lights would look sweet.

There were indeed more lights than just the front- and engine illumination.

Two additional lights were used at the bottom. It's tricky to spot them since they can be seen in a handful of scenes only...

Take a look at the model as built by E. James Small, which also features these lights:

Please give me some time and I'll take some screencaps of these lights underneath to show you some proof.

Here are the screencaps as promised.

I know, it's a bit hard to see but trust me the lights are there...

In "Saga" they used lights in the Vipers also. Seen mostly when Starbuck crash lands.

Those must be the belly search lights you have heard of Oxnard Montalvo.

Great work Red Eye!
