Moebius Cylon Raider

Post by robiwon » Tue Jun 03, 2014 5:29 pm

Picked up the Cylon Raider kit at Wonderfest last weekend. I knew it was a big kit, but wow, in person......it's a big kit! Couldn't resist taking a pic with my old Monogram Raider. Love it!

Here it is, all finished. A very nice kit indeed. Other than a few fit issues, it was a fun build.

Thanks guys. Eric, first off the kit itself is fantastic. For such a large and accurate kit for $50 or less, you just can't beat it. But no model kit is perfect and this does have a few issues. With a little forethought they can easily be overcome. The two main areas deal with the mounting lugs for some of the parts. The hulls top and bottom feature several mounting lugs. Near where the wings attach they push the upper hull part outwards. This creates a step in the side where the wings attach. This step prevents the wings from fitting snugly up to the hull. The second area are the parts that fit on top of the hull. The lugs are so tight that it may prevent the parts from fully seating against the upper hull resulting in open seams in some areas. I removed a lot of the lugs and got a much tighter fit on a lot of the parts.

Thanks guys. Here's a few more pics of the Raider in its new home, my office at work. Safe from my four cats!

They are pretty close in scale to each other as well! The Raider is 1/32 and the X-Wing is 1/35. The X-Wing needs to be a wee bit bigger to match the Raider in scale.
