Agreed - it appears that the concept of "good enough" that's plagued production kit designers for decades is no longer good enough and they're actually paying attention to what the fans really want. My guess is that they have a new generation of employees who grew up on "good enough" kits, who were fans of the kits being made, and who decided to join these kinds of companies when they grew up and make kits that went far beyond status-quo mediocrity.

It would also appear that the bean counter suits have also found a way to make more accurate models and make a profit at the same time (or at the very least break even), or they likely would not have approved the effort in the first place. That is a double-bonus and a sign of good things to come in the future.

One thing I need to toss in is that there has been major advancements in plastics for molding and great detail in 3D scanning for picture perfect results. So now maybe they companies offering these kits can go the extra mile with our extreme over cost runs.

That, plus 3D printing probably also helps. Instead of having someone labor over multiple prototype maquettes, they can tweak a 3D virtual model and print a new master until they get it right. Definitely helps with the bottom line.

I suggest, if anyone wants to keep up with developments on these, they go to Facebook and find the Moebius Models page for updates and images.

An interesting place-holder on HobbyLink Japan: http://www.hlj.com/product/MOE942/Sci

Additionally, there are some pics of the prototype 1/32 Raider and Viper here and here. They look REALLY nice and the Raider is freakin' ENORMOUS!
