Galactica 80

Post by Phil » Thu Nov 02, 2017 4:36 pm

For awhile now I've been considering making a Turbo Cycle/Turbine (I've seen both usages, not sure which is correct) from Galactica 80....I have *some* photos I can use as reference, but, an actual Blueprint or Line Drawing would be great :-)

I would also be wanting to make a Viper as well, and with that, I have some questions....

Was there a specific style of Viper that was used in Galactica 80....Viper, Asp, etc.?

Also....I've seen a variety of different measurements....for example:

Jackill's claim it to be 9.05 Metres Long

Colonial Warriors Technical Manual claim it to be 30 Metrons, which I'm guessing would translate as 30 Feet, which makes it 9.144000 Metres

A picture I found in Pinterest claim it to be 8.92 Metres

A Galactica Wiki claims it to be 8.4 Metres

A page talking about the actual Studio Prop says it is 27 Feet, which makes it 8.229600 Metres

https://www.galactica.tv/battlestar-gal ... ck-up.html

So....which one do I believe?

Both of these will be Scratchbuilt, by the way....hence why I need clarification on the Viper Length, so I know by how much to enlarge the pictures I have :-)

Wow! I can't wait to see your builds take shape.
Be sure to post up threads and keep us posted... and as I always say:
:CK:

Have you seen the info on the Turbo Bike in our Gallery?

And for the Viper... I'd say to go with the studio blueprints for scale.
I'm sure someone has a set to get you an overall size to work from.

There are a couple of full size Vipers being built now. And one done (in the UK).

Thanks for those, they should be more than enough for me to work out my own Working Drawing :-)

I managed to find these via a query elsewhere, which, while they're not the complete set, will suffice for the Viper at least :-)

Was it a specially modified Viper that was used in Galactica 80?

In the pictures I have, and have seen on-line, it doesn't seem to have much in the way of a Storage Hold, so one wonders how something the size of the Turbo Cycle could fit into such a small space :-/

Glad the bike pics help. Can't wait to see what you create! GoldCylon has the starting of a bike too... such a cool item.

I don't know of G80's vipers were different... I'd guess they'd use the same full size prop and stock footage of them flying.

The bike in the cargo hold is a bit not-to-realistic, but just a necessary plot device I assume. Just gloss over it for the story's sake.
Or they could be like the Jetsons car ;) and fold up.
