How many times did you ride it?

Ok, as the title states, how many times did you go on the Battle of Galactica ride, and how old.
I was 18 when drove down to LA on my motorcycle from Sacramento 400 miles to see the BoG.I took the tram ride just once that time but did come back over the next few years to make it a total of three or four time. I also met up with a Fanzine buddy that used to work there. I went to his house and he told me some of how the tour worked, and what he did as a Warrior. I thought the ride was so cool that it would never end, and I had all the time in the world to see it more, and take more photo's. Well it ended before I took care of capturing the history I am not trying to rebuild and share here.

When did you go? I went shortly after it opened, and then a about 4 or 5 years later. It still was really popular then, and they repaired and replaced stuff as it broke, but in the last few years it was open, things just went to pot.

I do remeber thaqt it wasn't in the main line up the last few years it was open, and shock when I arrived to the studio, and it was gone. I was about 6 month to late. The Back to the Future ride just opened, and it sits on top of were the BTTF ride is at now.

I think I went on the ride 3 or 4 times.
It opened when I was just a kid. Wasn't tell I was a teenager was I able to drive down to go on it. It was the highlight of the tour. I remember the last time I went on it everything looked run down. The Cylons outside looked wheater beaten.
Last time I went was when back to the future opened my whole day was shoot when we rounded that first bend and the spot were the Cylon ship had been was empty. I yelled out " Where are the Cylons"
Painful memory. :(

The only time I rode BATTLE OF GALACTICA was in 1986 of Universal Studios Hollywood and I still recall the script that went something like this...

TRAM TOUR GUIDE: Larry, <to the driver> what's going on here? Are we shooting here or something? What is this, some kind of spaceship or something...uh-oh!

We come around a bend in the road and spot a strange looking alien vessel blocking our path. To one side of the ship is a 2-man vehicle with the familiar looking Cylon Centurions aboard, one driving the other operating a laser cannon in back as one of the two machines threatens us.

CYLON: Halt, foolish humans. You have blundered into a Cylon battlezone...you are now our prisoners, do not attempt to escape...move forward immediately or we will blast you...

TRAM TOUR GUIDE: Uh, <nervous> we like to go inside your spaceship but we're on a tour right now, so we got to go, bye-bye.

Suddenly the Centurion manning the laser cannon opens fire, shooting a so-called blast of laser bolts over our heads before the driver again threatens us.

CYLON: Move...

TRAM TOUR GUIDE: Yes sir, anything you say. <then speaks to guests> Ah, ladies and gentlemen it looks like we're about to be captured by a Cylon battle cruiser. What will happen inside is anyone's guess.

Our four-vehicle tram rolls into the spaceship and we find ourselves confronted by other Centurion machines, two of them stand before their great leader on his throne in the center of the chamber.

CYLON LEADER: By your command...

IMPERIUS LEADER: Speak, Centurion.

CYLON LEADER: These strange looking earth-creatures have been captured while attempting a sneak attack on our battleship. Their general is called tour-guide.

TRAM TOUR GUIDE: General?!! No, wait a minute, I'm not a general, we weren't attacking anything! <tries to protest>

IMPERIUS LEADER: Silence, foolish mortals! Your fate is sealed. What's the standing order of your Imperius Leader?

CYLON LEADER: By your command, the total extermination of the life-form known as man...

Now it looks as if we are all doomed. The great leader of the Cylon Empire realizes his plans are about to be foiled and orders his machine servants to blast off immediately but before it happens a secret compartment opens from a so-called blast on the other side and into view emerges Apollo or Starbuck to the rescue!

STARBUCK: Stop! In the name of the Twelve Colonies of Man, I demand the release of the humans.

IMPERIUS LEADER: Destroy him!

Laser guns erupt as the Centurions open fire on Starbuck but he ducks and dodges the bolts and returns fire, taking down the robot soldiers with ease before shouting to us onboard our tram vehicle.

STARBUCK: Get out of here, I'll be all right! <waves for us to escape>

Then the tram speeds through an EXIT on the other side of the attraction as music is played in the background while a recorded voice drones on.

RECORDING: A single heroic Colonial warrior has rescued the earthlings from the clutches of the evil Cylons. Mankind has one more chance...

Yes that is one of the scripts used back in the day. I can only find 2 scripts made, but over years I am sure more than 2 were made.

That was the only time I experienced that attraction at Universal Studios Hollywood. Now a new attraction "TRANSFORMERS THE RIDE" will debue this year in 2010 or 2011 based on the two live action TRANSFORMERS movies which is also part of the animated franchise series from 1984 to 2010 celebrating 25 years of the alien robot machines from Cybertron...the Autobots and Optimus Prime VS the Decepticons and Megatron!

Hope you get a chance to experience that ride when it comes. I also saw both films in 2007 and 2009 and there will be one more a third sequel chapter to close out the storyline so to speak.

Currently most of my photogallery is off line, but Universal did have a Transformer area back in the late 80's. It was based off the cartoon series and the excited kids were able to interact with guys in costume, and also go inside a smaller sized building, and play a few things that were Transformer branded items. One of the guys that worked on the set sent me some of the photos that showed mostly the back where the costumes were stored, and a couple of photos of the inside of the show area.

:cylongold: Yea it was quite fun and I remember after the tour they would dump us out on top of the hill and thats where all the stores, and food court were as well as the Animal Actors show that later became Conan, The wild west stunt show, and Screen test theater and I remember my favorite eatery was right at the edge of the hill and the out side cafe tables were there so you could eat and see the spectacular panoramic view of the valley and the entire back lot of Universal well this particular eatery was exactly right above BOG and I always wanted to hop over the very short wall and sneak into BOG on foot but I was afraid I would get caught and they would ban me from the lot so I never did....LOL

Welcome Big Al, and the spot you looked down below to see the BOG was the 1st stop on the tram ride below, and the Back to the Future ride that later became the now Simpson ride. The building support beams now stand where the BOG building used to be since part of the building hangs over the edge of the clip. years before that the site was the boulder down the side of the mountain. A very limited time that ran since they had problems getting the foam rocks to load back up the hill automatically.

Yea I remeber that! as a matter of fact you could look down and still see some of the foam rocks they left on the slope after they built BOG!........Nothing to write home about ....the rocks they left were pretty shaggy and haggered....like an old foam cushon someone left in the sun!...lol...Wow I rode the tram back when the rock slide was operational and it was pretty lame!....I was even younger then...must have been about 1977 I think because at that time I remeber begging my dad to take me there so I could see the Jaws attraction!......Then there was the Ice avalanch ....that one was very cool!.....the collapsing bridge Eh....not so much but better than the rock slide!......the flash flood was Ok ....but for me once they put in BOG that was it!......the rest of it was just fluf......I did enjoy going through the sound stages....doing the blue screen demo and I think it was Steve Austin the six million dollar man...and the dressing rooms....at that time it was set up as Lucy's dressing room. ......The old houses on the back lot were very cool .....Leave it to Bever, 1313 mockingbird lane from the Munsters, Marcus Welby MD....wow now I'm really dating myself!....and of course the Bates Motel.....Here's a tid bit....when I was going there, BG was fresh on TV and they had the Towers from Ice Planet episode sitting next to the 1928 Frankenstein castle and I have that all on 8 mm.......I think all of those houses are being used on Desperate Housewifes now.....Whisteria Lane? I think...I don't know I don't watch it. :cylongold:
